Nicaragua, the second poorest country in the Western hemisphere, though presenting many opportunities for tourists, its tourism infrastructure is very limited. But over the last five year tourism gave a huge jump in Nicaragua. Below are certain tips and advise for your Nicaragua visit. The place is a paradise for budget travel. From eco-tourism to adventure travel, beach vacation, nightlife and low cost of living, Nicaragua has much to offer to its tourists. Nearly one fifth of Nicaragua is chosen as protected areas like National Parks, biological reserves and nature reserves. Citizens of most of the countries and territories can enter Nicaragua without a visa, others can obtain a Tourist Card for us$10 valid for 1 month to 3 months upon arrival, provided a six month valid passport. For the most current visa information’s, travelers can visit the Embassy of Nicaragua website. The majority of the population is mestizo and White and Spanish is the language spoken by about 90% of the population. English is widely spoken throughout the country. Corodoba is the local currency and US dollar is accepted almost everywhere. Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted throughout Nicaragua. But Caribbean costs, credit cards may not be widely accepted, so be prepared. Be aware that there have been increased reports of credit card fraud. Know which season you are travelling. The country has a range of micro climates. November to April is best suggested for hiking, camping and partying. December and January are the most popular travel months for tourists, as the rain is very unlikely, the landscape is lush and the temperature is very pleasant. Keep in mind, the place is prone to hurricanes, seismic and volcanic activity. Nicaragua is accessible via two major international airports, Managua International Airport and Juan Santamaria Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica. Major international airlines like Aerocaribbean, American Airlines, Atlantic Airlines, Continental Airlines, etc. have frequent services to and fro Nicaragua. Land and water transport is well maintained throughout the country. Must visit places in a Nicaragua tour include Playa Pie de Gigante, Refugio de Vida Silvestre La Flor, Las Isletas, Ctedral De Leon, Conventoy Museo San Francisco etc. With regards to your safety and security concerns, there is less threat from terrorism. Small thefts, break-ins and muggings are prevalent. Pickpocket and robberies are common in and around bus terminals. For your local transport always choose an authorized taxi which clearly displays name, photograph and identification number of the driver. Avoid traveling on buses after dark. Never carry large amount of cash, credit card and other valuables while local traveling. Avoid wearing costly jewelry.
