The city also has a few well-known temples including the Swaminarayan Temple, Nageshwar Parswanath Jain Temple. Other places of tourist interest in Rajkot include Gebanshah Pir Dargah,Hashanshah Pir Dargah, Turkibapu's Dargah, Swaminarayan Gurukul, Masonic Hall, Jam Tower, Race Course, and Aji Dam. Ramakrishna Aashram and Shri Ranchhoddas Ashram are two popular ashrams in the city. Situated in the region called Saurashtra in the state of Gujarat, Rajkot is a well known city. It is the administrative headquarter of the Rajkot district and is the fourth largest city in the state. It is located at a distance of 245 km from the state capital Gandhinagar. Rajkot was the capital of the erstwhile state of Saurashtra. It was founded by the then ruler of Sardhar in ther year 1607. The city of Rajkot is located on the bank of Aji River and Nyari River. There a quite a few places of tourist interest in Rajkot. The Jubilee Garden is one the city’s most famous sites. It is a large, open park area in the city centre featuring many monuments belonging to the colonial time. The Rotary Dolls Museum is another popular tourist site, and it houses a collection of more than 1,400 unique dolls from all over the world. The historic Mohandas Gandhi High School, Kaba Gandhi No Delo (Mohandas Gandhi's childhood residence), Rashtriya Shala, Watson Museum, Lang Library and Rotary Midtown Library are other places of tourist interest in the city. Rajkot gets prominence for its famous jewellery market, silk embroidery and watch parts. It is an industrial city with many large and small scale industries spread across the city. The city is known for the manufacture of diesel engines, bearings, kitchen knives and other cutting appliances, watch parts (cases & bracelets), automotive parts. It also has a number of forging industries, casting industries, machine tools factory, share market, and software companies. The climate of Rajkot is pleasant with no extremes. The summers stretch between the months of March to June and can sometimes be hot, though overall tolerable. The winter time starts from October and continues till February. The weather during this time is cool and pleasant. Rainfall occurs mainly during the monsoon months of July to September. One unique feature of the climate here is the frequent cyclones after the rainy season. The best time to visit Rajkot is during the months of October to March.
