Situated on the Chota Nagpur plateau of the state of Jharkhand, Jamshedpur is the one of the largest cities of India. Located in the East Singhbhum district, it was previously under the township of Sakchi, and was later re-named Jamshedpur in 1919. The city is surrounded by the beautiful Dalma Hills on its north and by the rivers Subarnarekha and Kharkai in the west. It is one of the fastest growing cities of the country and it won the 2004 global compact city awarded by United Nations for being among the fastest developing cities. Jamshedpur is a well-known industrial city and is extremely well planned. Steel industry is a major industry here and the large production has given it the name “Steel City”. Since it was founded by the late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata, it is also popularly known as Tata Nagar. It houses wide streets, with numerous beautiful parks and gardens and playing fields of hockey, cricket and football. It is also home to the Tata Football Academy (TFA) which was started in 1987 by Tatas to train and find new talents in football. Jamshedpur is also known for the Tata Archery Academy. Although the city is known all over as an industrial area, it still retains its natural beauty. Jamshedpur has numerous places for the visitors. Tata Steel Zoological Park is amongst the most famous ones. There is a zoo close to the Jubilee Park. It is known for its 'Safari Park’ which enables visitors a closer view of freely moving wild animals by driving through the jungle. The Pardih Kali Mandir, temple of the Goddess Kali, and Hudco Lake are the other popular places. Hudco Lake is man-made lake that also has an artificial waterfall. An annual flower show in December at Sir Dorabji Tata Park is visited by the hundreds of people every year. For nature lovers, the city has much to offer. The Dalma hills stretch over 16 km from east to west in the North of Subarnarekha River and are famous for wild elephant herds. The hill is quite popular among trekkers and mountain climbers. At the foot of the Dilma Lake, there is a beautiful lake called Dimna Lake. This is an artificial reservoir, and many adventure sports enthusiasts come here for its water sports like jet-skiing, diving, rowing and water-scooting. It is used as the main source of drinking water as well. The confluence of rivers Kharkai and Subarnarekha is a popular picnic spot. The best time to enjoy Jamshedpur’s weather is from October to April. For More Info: Jamshedpur and Jamshedpur Hotels
