The city of Nagpur is a well-known tourist destination of Maharashtra and visitors come here from all over to enjoy a holiday. Some of the popular tourist sites in the city include Deekshabhoomi, the largest hollow stupa, Tekdi Ganesh Mandir, Futala Lake, Maharajbagh Zoo, Nagpur Central Musuem, Gorewada Lake, Sri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir, Shri Mahalaxmi Devi Temple, Raman Science Centre, VCA stadium and so on. There are also few of places of tourism important nearby to the city which are the Gavilgad Fort which is around 200-300 years old, the Dragon Palace Temple which is a Buddhist religious site in Kamptee, and the Fort of Balapur built between the Mana and Mhais Rivers. Nagpur has a rich culture, which reflects the cultures from different parts of the country. Povada, Lavani, Koli, Dhangri Gaja, Dindi, Kala and Tamasha are some of the folk form of dances of the region. Nagpur is an important city in the state of Maharashtra in western India and is the winter capital of the state. At a distance of about 837 km from the state capital Mumbai, Nagpur is located in the Deccan Plateau. The city is almost in the centre of the country, and the Zero Mile Marker is located here, which indicates the geographical centre of India. It is the largest city in Central India and the third largest in the state of Maharasthra. Owing to its green surroundings, Nagpur is considered to be one of the greenest cities of India. The foundation of the city was laid by Bakht Buland Shah, who was the Gond King of Deogad, in the year 1703. It was given the name ‘Nagpur’ because of the Nag River that flows through the city. Nagpur is blessed with flourishing flora and fauna. The city is known as ‘the orange capital of India’ because it is a major cultivator and trade centre of oranges. The city is an important trade centre and is one of the fastest growing cities of the state. It is home ti many industries and is important for the banking sector as it hosts the regional office of Reserve Bank of India. Connectivity to the city is good as it is well connected by road, rail and air. National Highway 6 and 7 runs through the city and there are a host of trains running to and fro from the city.
