Chikmagalur is an important tourist destination in the state of Karnataka. Both cities have important positions in the map of India and are well-connected to each other via rail, road and air.Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka and the IT hub of India is one of the top metropolitan cities in India. The distance between Bangalore and Chikmagalur is about 238 km approximately and a travel time of about 5 hours and 30 minutes is needed to reach Chikmagalur from Bangalore via road. There are Volvo bus services between Bangalore and Chikmagalur that takes a travel time between 5 to 7 hours. Private operated bus services as well as state government buses ply between Bangalore and Chikmagalur. The bus fares range from 100 to 1000 rupees per traveler depending upon the type of bus chosen to travel. Private taxis and cabs that are available to travel from Bangalore to Chikmagalur charge about 5000 to 6800 rupees round the trip depending upon the type of vehicle chosen by the traveler to travel from Bangalore to Chikmagalur. Chikmagalur does not have any railway station and so it cannot be reached directly from Bangalore via rail. The nearest railhead to Chikmagalur is at Kadur at a distance of about 38 km away from Chikmagalur. The main trains that provide services from Bangalore to Kadur are, the Chalukya Express No:11018 which starts from the Yeshwantpur Junction station at 6:30 am and reaches Kadur at 9:58 am taking a travel time of about 3 hours and 28 minutes on Mondays, Wednesdays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Intercity Express No:12725 which starts from the Yeshwantpur Junction station at 1:11 pm and reaches Kadur at 4:15 pm taking a travel time of about 3 hours and 4 minutes on all the days, Rani Chennamma Express No:16589 which starts from the Yeshwantpur Junction station at 9:27 pm and reaches Kadur at 12:49 am taking a travel time of about 3 hours and 22 minutes on all the days, and, Hospet Passr Express No:56909 which starts from the Yeshwantpur Junction station at 11:45 pm and reaches Kadur at 2:59 am taking a travel time of about 3 hours and 14 minutes on all the days. It takes about 50 minutes to 1 hour by road to reach Chikmagalur, from the railway station at Kadur. There is no airport at Chikmagalur and so travel by air from Bangalore to Chikmagalur is not possible directly. Journey by bus is suited only for backpackers and individual travelers to travel from Bangalore to Chikmagalur. Except the fact that, direct train journey to Chikmagalur is not possible, train journey from Bangalore to Chikmagalur is also considered to be an easy mode of transportation between the two places.
