Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka and the IT hub of India is one of the top metropolitan cities in India. Salem is an important industrial city in the state of Tamilnadu. It is also known as the Street City. Both cities have important positions in the map of India and are well-connected to each other via rail and roads. The distance between Bangalore and Salem is about 195 km approximately and a travel time of about 2 hours and 50 minutes is needed to reach Salem from Bangalore via road. There are Volvo bus services between Bangalore and Salem that takes a travel time between 3 to 5 hours. Private operated bus services as well as state government buses ply between Bangalore and Salem. The bus fares range from 150 to 800 rupees per traveler depending upon the type of bus chosen to travel. Private taxis and cabs that are available to travel from Bangalore to Salem charge about 5000 to 6800 rupees round the trip depending upon the type of vehicle chosen by the traveler to travel from Bangalore to Salem. Trains to Salem depart from three stations in Bangalore, Yeshwantpur Junction, Bangalore City Junction and Krishnarajapuram. Bangalore and Salem are well-linked with a number of railway lines. There are a number of train services available daily, to travel from Bangalore to Salem. The Kochuveli Express No: 12777 starts from the Yeshwantpur Junction Station at 3:20 pm and reaches Salem Junction by 7:45 pm taking a travel time of 4 hours and 25 minutes only on Wednesdays. The Kongu Express No: 12648 starts from the Bangalore City Junction Station at 1:30 am and reaches Salem by 6:05 am taking a travel time of 4 hours and 35minutes only on Fridays. The Ernakulam Express No: 12677 starts from the Bangalore City Junction Station at 10:02 am and reaches Salem by 10:02 am taking a travel time of 3 hours and 47 minutes on all the days. The Trivandrum Express No: 16331 starts from the Krishnarajapuram Junction Station at 10:30 am and reaches Salem by 3:25 pm taking a travel time of 4 hours and 55 minutes only on Tuesdays. The Nagarcoil Express No: 16339 starts from the Krishnarajapuram Station at 10:30 am and reaches Salem by 3:45 pm taking a travel time of 5 hours and 15 minutes only on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Train journey from Bangalore to Salem is the most recommended mode of transportation between the two places. There is no airport at Salem and so travel by air from Bangalore to Salem is not possible directly.
