How to get from Delhi to Kolkata

Delhi the capital of India is the second most populous Indian city (1.67 crores approximately).National Capital territory (NCT) which includes New Delhi has its own legislative assembly and New Delhi is jointly administered by NCT and Central Government. The three seats of power namely the Indian Parliament, the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Indian Supreme Court are located here. Other tourist attractions include India Gate, QutubMinar, AksharDham, Red Fort and Jantar Mantar. Delhi owns a well maintained Metro Rail system. Delhi is well connected to Kolkata by road, rail and air

Kolkata the capital of the state of West Bengal lies on the east bank of Hooghly River on the lower Gangetic delta. Population of the city is around 4.5 millions. Three bridges across Hooghly connect Kolkata with Howrah. Local administration is by Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Kolkata port is the oldest major port in India. Many public and private companies like Coal India Ltd, ITC ltd and Britannia Industries are located there. Main tourist attractions of Kolkata include Kalighat, India Museum, Indian Botanical Gardens and Dakshineswar temple among others.National Highway NH2 connects Delhi to Kolkata. 1431 km road distance can be covered in 20 ½ hours depending on traffic and road conditions. The route touches cities Agra, Kanpur, Allahabad, Dhanbad, Durgapur and Howrah. From Delhi take Noida expressway (29 km) and Dankour road to be on NH91 (371 km). After Kanpur take AH1 (68.6 km), NH2 (79.6 km), Allahabad bypass (81.9 km), again NH2 (74.2 km), Viswa Saundarya bypass (30.5 km), GT road (50 km), NH2 again (516.6 km), Durgapur bypass (64.9 km)Nh6 (4.2 km), Benaras road and SH6 (7.5 km) and drive on to Kolkata.

Private taxies will charge Rs 10/- for a Tata Indica a/c and Rs 13/- for a Mahindra Xylo per running km for a trip from Delhi to Kolkata. No luxury bus services are available from Delhi to Kolkata.Delhi’s main railway stations for long distance trains are Delhi junction, New Delhi station and Nizzamuddin station. Kolkata’s main stations are Sealdah and Chitpur stations and Howrah station on the other side of Hooghly. There are 16 direct express and superfast trains from Delhi to Kolkata out of which 11 are touching Howrah only. Most of the trains take 22 hours on an average to cover the distance of 1453 km. No-12260 New Delhi Sealdah Doronto takes only 16 hours 25 minutes. Main airports in the two cities are Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi and Subhash Chandra International airport in Kolkata. There are direct flights from Delhi to Kolkata operated by Go Air, Indigo airlines, Jet Konnect, Spicejet and Air India. The fare varies from Rs 7711/- for economy to Rs 30,600/- for business class.
