When it comes to skin care there is some very good news. The good news is that no matter what others may have you to believe, skin care is very simple. Having healthy skin doesn’t have to be a twenty step process. The other good news is you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on every new product that promises to make you look years younger. Skin care can be as easy as 1, 2, 3. Step 1 is cleansing the skin. One of the most important steps in the whole skin care process is to clean the skin. It’s during this time that all the dirt, oil, and makeup from the day are lifted from the skin. Keeping the skin clean will help to prevent the skin from drying out. When choosing a cleanser make sure to steer clear of body soap. Soap has a high pH which will only dry your skin out even more. Always use facial soap or liquid cleansers. Try to choose a mild cleanser that will still work to get the face clean. If you have dry skin you should choose a creamy cleanser, for oily skin a clear cleanser is best. Natural cleansers are great for the skin. The water found in natural cleaners help to really dissolve the dirt. Natural cleaners also have the minerals the skin needs. Not only are they effective but they’re very safe. Cleaning is important, but it must be done right. When it comes to cleaning your face remember that less is always better. Only clean your face once a day, preferably at night. A small amount of cleanser will go a long way. Washing the face with lukewarm water is good for the mornings. Step 2 is to moisturize. The purpose of moisturizing is to keep the skin from becoming chap and drying out. It also helps to slow down the aging process. Often times the skin will still become dry during the cleansing process. Replenishing the moisture to the skin is very important. Even if you have oily skin you should still moisturize. When shopping for a good skin moisturizer there are some key ingredients you should look for: Glycerol- This ingredient acts as a guide for water and other moisturizers. It helps the water to penetrate the skin and shows it where it needs to be. Ceramides- Our skin has its own natural oils. Ceramides helps to replenish this oil. Hydroxy Acids- This acid helps to exfoliate the dead skin cells. Niacinamide- Helps the skin to make more natural oils. When it comes to keeping your skin moisturized it’s also important that you drink at least 6-8 glasses of water daily. Also, eating fruits and vegetables that contains a lot of water is a good choice. Step 3 is to apply sunscreen. The final, and often most forgotten, step in the skin care process is the application of sunscreen. The first two steps are rather easy to remember because we can feel when our face is dirty or dry. This indicates to us that we need to clean and moisturize. When it comes to sun damage the warning signs are underneath the skin. Also, the change from sun damage is so gradual that once it’s noticed it’s too late. Sun damage is the number one cause of wrinkles, skin discoloration, and age spots, which is why you should make it a habit at an early age. If those aren’t enough reasons to help you remember, maybe knowing that the cause of most skin cancer is from too much sun exposure will help you to remember how serious this step is to your skin. It’s important to remember to always apply your sunscreen when your skin’s exposed to the sun. Even if you plan to be out for a short amount of time, you still need sunscreen. Did you know that even sitting next to a window could cause sun damage? Caring for your skin is very important. Now there’s no excuse to pass up the opportunity to have healthy looking skin. All it takes is three easy steps: clean, moisturize, and sunscreen and your skin will look healthy and radiant.
