Manipur State Museum
Manipur State Museum, situated near the Imphal Pologround, preserves the heritage of the state. The museum houses Manipuri costumes, portraits of royal kings of Manipur, weapons, handicrafts and much more. The royal boat, known as Hiyang Hiren is the main feature of the museum. It is 78 ft long and kept on the open gallery.
Khwairamband Bazar
Situated in Imphal, Khwairamband Bazar is a shopper's delight. You will get everything at this market – handicrafts, vegetables, clothes, local herbs, fruits, fish, utensils, jewellery, handloom products and much more. The interesting feature about the market is that you will find only women running the stalls. The market reflects the importance of Manipuri women in their society. It is well known as 'Ima Keithel'. 'Ima' means mother and 'Keithel' means market in Manipuri. The market opens as early as 7 in the morning.
Govindajee Temple
Devoted to Lord Krishna, Govindajee Temple lies in the capital city Imphal. The exquisitely carved temple is a big draw to tourists. There are deities of Lord Vishnu, Krishna, Radha, Balarama and Jagannatha among many idols in the shrine.
Loktak Lake
Lying in Moirang about 45 km from Imphal, the mesmerising Loktak Lake is a big hit among tourists. It is the only floating lake in the world. The lake has a plethora of aquatic flora and fauna. The amazing feature about the lake is small huts built on floating islands known as 'Phumdies.' Keibul Lamjao National Park is another attractive spot for tourists visiting the lake. Situated just 7 km from Imphal, Khonghampat Orchidarium welcomes you to a colourful land of orchids. The orchidarium houses more than 110 varieties of orchids, including orchids resembling lizards and bees. It spreads over an area of 200 acres.
Manipur Red Hill
Manipur Red Hill or locally known as Maibam Lokpa Ching is a popular tourist destination. It is located in Maibam, about 16 km from Imphal. The hillock is famous for a war memorial, erected in the memory of Japanese soldiers, who laid down their lives fighting against the British army in a fierce battle during the Second World War.
