The New Year is here and many of us would have followed the annual tradition of making new pledges towards improving the quality of our life – or resolutions, as they’re more commonly known. Get a new job Ok, so this is a fairly obvious suggestion but it’s worth considering. Are you constantly unhappy with the state of your working life? Feel like you’re worked too hard? While the jobs market is understandably extremely competitive, there is no reason why you can’t look for a new position while holding your existing role. Wake up earlier Always rushing out the door to get to work? End up strolling into your working environment one or two minutes before you’re due to start work? Change your habits and start getting out of bed 30 minutes or an hour earlier and ensure that you arrive to your workplace with plenty of time to spare. Your boss will certainly take note of your extra eagerness and you’ll feel all the better for it. Be more productive Not getting the most out of your working hours? Be more productive by planning out your days and scheduling your tasks. You’ll find that you become much more efficient at completing the tasks that you are looking to check off without stressing that you won’t be able to finish certain jobs. Always remember to schedule in small breaks too to help keep your mind fresh, active and interested. Socialise with colleagues Go through your work day without saying a word to your fellow colleagues? It’s time to change! This year, make an effort to get to know your fellow colleagues and suggest the possibility of socialising outside of the working environment every now and again. It will be rewarding to get to know the people you work with in more depth and discover their interests and hobbies. You never know, you could make some really great bonds! Become more involved Show a willingness to become more involved with your job. Ask your boss if there is any extra work that needs doing, suggest potential improvements to your businesses strategy and volunteer yourself for any miscellaneous errands.
