Living a life in the university or a college is not just listening to the lectures of professors and writing essays and other academic papers as well as sitting in examinations or composing MBA assignments. Visual aids could also be used to make the audience more interested in the presentation or report. The different types of visual aids that a student could use in his presentations or reports offer varying advantages and disadvantages. For examples, using a video presentation is ideal for dealing both small and large group of audience. Since it is a video presentation, it looks very professional. It could also be very effective if the video was edited skilfully. But creating and preparing a video presentation is quite a complex task. A student needs to have special equipment like a video camera as well as suitable editing software. Likewise, a student needs to have some skills in editing a video. Most of all, a video presentation is not so ideal for classroom discussion and interaction. Handouts, on the other hand, are very much easy to create and produce. A reporter just simple needs to provide them to the audience before the start of his presentation. Likewise, the student could place a lot of information on the handouts as reference on his report. But handouts also present quite some issues. For example, handouts may not actually support the presentation or report. The audience may instead focus on the handouts instead of paying attention to the reporter in front. Handouts typically have low impact; as student would not mind listening to the presentation since the information he wants to get is already in the handouts. Powerpoint presentations, meanwhile, have been very popular since its creation. PowerPoint slides have been proven to be effective in conveying the intended message to the target audience. They are also quite interactive, since a reporter may choose to stay on a particular slide as he sees fit. However, creating a PowerPoint presentation takes some skills as well as takes time. Visual aids could help the presenter to help the audience get his message and understand the information being conveyed. No matter what type of visual aid a student plans to use, he should make sure that it suits his reporting needs.
