Straight teeth offer a number of rewards to teens and adults including improved oral health, a beautiful smile, and greater self-confidence. There are a number of ways to achieve straight teeth for those of us not lucky enough to have achieved them without intervention. The primary means of straightening teeth are traditional braces, Invisalign® aligners, and the Damon System braces. This article will focus on the Damon braces, including a description of how the System works along with information about the metal and clear options available. The Damon System of orthodontics is a passive, low friction method of correcting crooked teeth. The Damon brackets that affix to the teeth do not use elastic o-rings found in traditional braces. Instead, the Damon System uses small sliding doors on the brace to secure the arch wire in place. This produces less friction and binding, which increases the comfort and rate that teeth move. The size of the wire increases over time to achieve movement in teeth to the desired location in the mouth. Compared with traditional options, the Damon system is significantly more comfortable as they gently transition the placement of teeth within the tissues of the mouth. Damon braces are also much easier to brush and clean around, since they do not include the colored elastic ties and other auxiliary wings and hooks. Cleaner teeth mean less plaque buildup and fewer cavities. Another benefit of the Damon System is that braces fit the individual facial features and bone structure of each patient to enhance not only your smile, but also your entire face. As a result, the Damon System helps people achieve a fuller, wider smile, smoother lip and cheek contours, and improved profiles than are available through traditional braces. Damon braces also significantly reduce the chance that you will be required to have teeth extracted or have to use a palatal expander to create extra space. Since the treatment is very precise and effective, there are fewer adjustments to achieve optimal results. This means that monthly appointments to the orthodontist are not required, often cutting the total number of visits in half. Available in regular metal or clear brackets, the Daman System allows you to be as discrete about wearing braces as you want. Metal brackets are available in either stainless steel or a polycarbonate metal alloy. Both options are highly durable and strong enough to support the movement of the teeth. Damon clear braces are made of colorless ceramic. Whichever option you select, Damon System braces have been proven to be an excellent choice to achieve all the benefits that go along with straight, appropriately straightened teeth.
