If you have recently become the owner of a camcorder you may find it a challenge to learn how to shoot a good video. With a little practice and a basic knowledge of your camera you can learn how to shoot videos like a professional. The first thing to consider when shooting your video is lighting. Videos shot in dim lighting can look like they have been shot in total darkness. If you can turn on the lights in the area where you are shooting you will have a much better result. Or, if you are shooting outside in the sunshine, shoot with the sun behind you. When the video is shot with the sun behind your subject, you will find their face appears to be in shadow and will look dark. Video cameras are equipped with a zoom feature. A good tip is don’t use the zoom too much when you are recording your video. Most beginners enjoy using the zoom feature. Unfortunately, when you watch a video that has used a lot of zoom the movement in and out can make the viewer feel dizzy or sick to their stomach. When you do use the zoom feature do so at a slow, steady pace. If you own a tripod, and never use it, now is a good time to dust it off. Handheld video can start out looking good, but as the person holding the video camera gets tired, or distracted, the video starts to look wobbly. Even if you have a steady hand, merely breathing can cause the camera to move up and down. If you intend to film for a long time it’s a good idea to use a tripod. This will minimize the vibrations in the film. When you start to record it will take the video camera a few seconds to begin recording. Keep this in mind if you are shooting an important event or speech. For the same reason, at the end of the event, wait a few seconds before turning off the camera. The slight delay at the beginning and at the end of the video could cause you to miss something really important. You can break your video into clips by stopping and starting your recording. For a beginner, especially, it is easier to edit shorter clips than one long video. Don’t worry about using too much video time. It is better to have more video of an important event than less. Remember, once the moment is gone it can never be recaptured again. Nowadays most hd camcorders come with built in special effects. Unfortunately, if these are added to the video while filming they cannot be removed at a later date. For example, if you film a video entirely in black and white, you can’t make it colour later. Save the special effects for the editing process. This will allow you to have the option of adding or removing special effects, and give you more freedom to create a professional looking video. Video of a special event is priceless. Hd camcorders are a great investment. Your camera and a little skill is all you need to create a video that will make you proud.
