Talent Attraction Strategies – The case of Germany Some years ago Germany launched a new Talent Attraction Strategies> to compensate the lack of qualified employees the country will have in a few years. The initiative tries to catch the attention of students, firms and employees and promote Germany as the ‘’Land of ideas’’ and therefore the country of technology, development and science. Germany should be considered as a country, which is innovative and offers great chances for personal development and building one’s career. This Talent Attraction Strategies> works with several partners and carries out different projects in the fields of economy, society, politics, culture and science. One of the main goals of the Talent Attraction Strategies> is to encourage people to make their ideas and innovations public and visible in Germany. How does Germany do that exactly? There are several projects, which focus on different purposes. One example is the internet portal Research in Germany. Foreign scientists and opinion leaders from the fields of politics and economics get access to the German research landscape. The internet portal offers an insight into what German researchers are recently doing and provides interesting news on current topics. Another project is the campaign Study in Germany. The Talent Attraction Strategies> provides information on the possibilities of studying in Germany. Germany is considered as the third most popular host country after the USA and Great Britain, with around ten percent of all international students worldwide and the number should be increased steadily. Additionally, there are several campaigns that support education and entrepreneurship in Germany by rewarding ideas with awards. But it is not only about getting new talents into the country. The goal is also to gain new investors, which support these talents. Germany should be presented more attractively as a location for investors. The country is not able to pay for all the students and trainees on its own. Investors are needed. So all in all you can say that a Talent Attraction Strategies>has always two different sides. Talents want to be gained, but on the other side you have to have or gain investors supporting the talents. Because, what should you do with talents when you cannot support them? Germany does that in a very good way and has obviously success with its campaign. Source: http://www.land-der-ideen.de/en
