The midseason championship is also the first leg of the unofficialBroadway Bullring Triple Crown, the others being the season-endingchampionship race and track points title. On the surface, that accomplishment might not sound that difficult,but it has only been accomplished a handful of times in trackhistory. Here are the drivers who have won this "triple crown" inthe past 20 years: Late models: Mark Burgtorf (2006, 2003, 1994). Modifieds: Steven DeLonjay (2011), Michael Long (2007), Wyatt Lantz(2005, "B" mods), Tony Dunker (2004, "B" mods), Greg Uppinghouse(1999, "B" mods), Hank DeLonjay (1994, "A" modifieds). Sport mods: This is first full season. Stock cars: None since series debuted in 2008. Hobby stocks: Dave Wietholder (2001), Eddie Dieker (1999). Sport compacts: None since series debuted in 2011. 2011 MIDSEASON CHAMPIONSHIP RACE WINNERS Late models: Keith Pratt Modifieds: Steven DeLonjay Stock cars: Aaron Brocksieck Hobby stocks: Wes Mayfield Sport compacts: Robert Thompson Here's what to look for when the first green flag falls at 6:30p.m. today at 8000 Broadway: LATE MODELS Pick to click: The two hottest drivers in this series right now areDustin Griffin and Jason Perry. I'll take whichever one you don'twant. A semi-dark horse is Ricky Frankel, who has finished fourthin his last two Sunday nights at 8000 Broadway. Frankel should beone of the strongest cars in the second half of the season. (Westart tracking second-half points June 17.) Best comeback bet: Justin Reed, who has been going the wrongdirection in the final results. The defending track champ isnormally at the peak of his game in the second half of the season,so no need to push any panic button. Noteworthy: There were only three Sunday nights of racing in June ayear ago because of bad weather and the late model feature winnerswere Joey Gower, Lonnie Bailey and Keith Pratt. Gower has beenstruggling this season, Bailey is not racing UMP and Pratt is stillwaiting for engine repairs to be finished after some early seasonproblems. MODIFIEDS Pick to click: I like Michael Long to win his second straight andDave Wietholder to rack up another runner-up finish. Have youlooked at the top six or seven drivers in the points standings? Allthe expected power drivers have worked themselves into position forwhat should be a tremendous second half of the season. Best comeback bet: Steven DeLonjay had to bow out early last Sundayand took a big hit in the points. This week should be different.Dave Wietholder, celebrating a feature win May 20. Noteworthy: DeLonjay missed just 31 of 458 feature laps in 2011,completing 93 percent of all main events. In seven features thisyear, the defending champ has been on the track for just 81 percentof the feature laps. SPORT MODS Pick to click: Two weeks ago, Vance "Flash" Wilson was third in thefeature. Last week he was second. I think this is the week he takeshis first checkered flag in a sport mod. Best comeback bet: Points leader Tony Dunker should enjoy a nicecomeback after that 10th place last Sunday. I also predict he keepshis helmet on the entire race. Noteworthy: I believe Joe Bliven is the first driver I have seen atthe track in my 14 years covering races there who has used Romannumerals for his "number." When Bliven On A Prayer debuted his newskin last Sunday -- which looked great, by the way -- he opted for"XX" instead of "20." STOCK CARS Pick to click: The stock car class has the feel of a TerryHouston-Abe Huls fight to the finish, and I like Houston to win asecond straight feature. Best comeback bet: I'm going with Aaron Brocksieck -- again.There's no way he finishes as low as he has the last two weeks(seventh) a third straight time. Noteworthy: Houston and Jerry Jansen are the only two drivers inthis class to run every feature lap this season. HOBBY STOCKS Pick to click: Right now the two stoutest cars in this division areJake Powers and Brandon Symmonds -- and Powers appears to be just abit stronger. Look for The Snake to win his fifth feature in eightweeks. Best comeback bet: Tanner Klingele, if he can avoid thosebehemothian tires in turn one. Noteworthy: Six of the seven hobby stock feature winners havestarted in the first two rows. The other began in row three. SPORT COMPACTS Pick to click: Andrew Davis has been the most consistent driver inthis division, but has just one checkered flag. Sunday he gets hissecond. Best comeback bet: Davis. Yeah, I know this is weird, but lastweek's sixth-place feature finish was his lowest of the season.
