The resource view towards your goals

Business,Career,Fitness

MMore than likely you do have more resources at hand than what you are generally applying to any given pursuit or endeavor you have chosen to emphasize. While you may not know yourself what these resources will be, you may have always just related resources to set goals, and because these resources are so painted against goals, they become packed against the goals and you have the idea that if you can’t apply these resources to the goal, then the full resources are lost to any wider applicability that might be found.

The part as applied to the goal, indeed may be the part that could also fit another goal.

Any external situation will require specific resources and we may believe that we are a little short on those resources. This however is just accentuated by goal setting, where the goal is put up front rather than the resources. The moving goal becomes the target against which the believed resources are applied. Because of the tendency to only see the goal, and how it might be achieved, I begin to de link from real resources, which might have been brushed aside but then get lost altogether in the new configuration which revolves all the way around the goal and considerations towards the goal rather than considerations of also overall resources.

Situations like this arise from any number of reasons but often from extended efforts towards a specific goal that is time consuming and requires long and extended focusing and then sight is lost of other resources that might have been usable, handy and easily reactivated. These resources however seemed to have actually dissipated so I don’t seek out circumstances and goals that would use these resources, so I don’t find another tier of goals if I lose out on some prime goals. I don’t dip back into those resources because I lost sight of them and don’t believe that they were there in the first place.

This is why materialism can be considered a safe haven in the thought process, if I have a lot of material things, they become a representation of resources, but again this might begin to form a trap as well, as this material resources could be lost and then I don’t have the mental practice of having resources being more fully contemplated in their less material like forms. The need to compare then arises and that again ties to goals. As I compare, I am also losing sight of some real resources because I am thinking of the guidelines involved in the comparing rather than the mining of resources first and only then doing some cross checking’s on the comparisons. A lot of people do fall prey to the trap of believing that they have less personal and intrinsic resources then they actually have and do to things like comparisons often leads to full scale belief systems that leave out truths about personal resources. But to a degree, in practice this belief becomes prophetic in that if I don’t believe I have this, I will not consider this. This is why perhaps consideration and ongoing review of resources should be put ahead of even good goals and achievable goals. While these goals can be valid, the chase should not take away the view of true resources that are actually there or can be cultivated by you.

There is the need to trim the tree so to speak to get to some goals, but this trimming process, of focusing is a danger to your own view of widely held resources and by losing this view you can form irrational loyalties to goals, situations, and routines that seem to say, yes I can follow this, but then I believe that this is all I can follow as far as a road to travel, while your resources are greater than this viewpoint. Things to think about is working situations that are all consuming and the person believes that this is all they can do, and might be afraid to make wanted changes towards something else. The advantages of broadening your horizons are the ability to find and seek your own resources and how you can rely on them and where you can rely on them. And then you might have to take several steps back, several steps across to find those lost resources, and I can’t say I don’t have this in my first foray back or try into this. For example, I stopped running and if might take a number of trips to the school yard track and a number of miles to find that runner again. But the truth is that resource can be found again.

The dangerous waters can arise anywhere where belief in your resources is faltering. Because then if I believe I am in a trap, I believe I must stay there as my resources do not permit me an escape to something else.

Getting back to the example of running, my goal view is that I will get back and work into running ten miles breezily. However my resource view is somewhat different. I can still have the goal of ten miles, but I have the view that while running I can at times obtain a specific mind body connection, I can now identify that I am a good runner, I can make a run for the border if I am in some foreign country and I need to run say a dozen miles to a safe haven outside the country. I have the resource of being able to run for any number of reasons, including the contrasting of some of my work which is sitting down at a desk. I have the resource of being able to isolate my thinking while running, to be able to imagine being a great runner while running with a cheering crowd. The resource view ties into a lot more that the goal view in this case.

Take an example of problem of excess weight, and the goals towards losing weight. For example, someone says they want to lose 20 points and the means aren’t as important as long as the goal is met. However the resource view to losing weight could be that I can find new and improved ways to experience things lighter on my feet, I can have the resource of learning what might be better foods, more nutritious foods, better places to eat and shop, better snacks, finding the ability to say no on a consistent basis to certain foods, or the ability to limit them on a consistent basis, I can find the healthier feeling of being at a more comfortable weight, I can find out then if there is feedback that is positive from others who I didn’t think were watching and also can find myself moving away from prior approaches that weren’t working well as far as weight control.

The resource view can work together with the goals and also help in visualizations of what you really want. For example take the goal of wanting to be a famous golfer, within this one of the resources would be a flock of people following you as you play as fans, beautiful courses to play on, traveling and meeting new and exciting people and a lot of other related things such as headlines in the news.

A common stated goal is people want a couple of millions dollars. That goal is easier to visualize and imagine if you permit the resource view into the situation. I want to have the two million dollars as a resource to travel, a resource to work less hours and pursue other interests, as a resource to a boat, a house, an ability to wine and dine friends and pay for them all at times, as a resource to fund a child’s education, as a resource to meet and impress new people, as a resource to pay for tours of scenic locations, as a resource to just kicking back and breathing in some new ideas that now do not involve striving for the money. Rather than just envisioning my goal of two million, my resource view permits expanding the imaging of what this might potentially involve, including more altruistic goals of being able to share the wealth. And most self help literature says to visualize your goals but might forget to visualize your resources. Getting back to the weight loss issue, the lower weight might be a resource to any number of things including the freedom from thinking about how you are overweight and feeling overweight and having the resource of being able to start fresh and carry into a youthful balance that isn’t necessarily found in the strains of being overweight. The resource might be the self recognition that is also found at a lower more ideal weight and the de linking from the prior identifications as an overweight person. The lower weight might be a resource to a better platform for participating in sports or recreational activities that might interest me more so at the lower weight.
