Amber Fort is situated in Amer city at a distance of 11 km from Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The name of the fort is derived from Amba, the Mother Goddess. Raja Man Singh constructed this fort in 1592 AD and Mirja Raja Jai Singh I expanded and renovated it later. It was made in red sand stone and white marble. It is popular for its artistic style, blending both the best architectural designs of Hindu and Rajput elements. Jaipur is well connected to all major cities by rail, road and air. It has several trains from many cities and apart from this, a special train called ‘Palace on Wheels’ which covers all tourist destinations in Rajasthan starting from Delhi is also available. Government buses of Rajasthan connect Jaipur to all cities in India. Many deluxe buses are also available between Jaipur and other cities. Sanganer Airport located at Jaipur is nearly 10 km from the city centre and it is linked to metro cities Mumbai and Delhi. Taxis are available which charges around Rs. 200 from airport to the city. Foreign Travellers can take connecting flights from Delhi and Mumbai. Amber Fort can be reached through auto rickshaws and taxis as well as on elephants that are available from the main city of Jaipur. Amber Fort is one of the principal attractions in the city of Jaipur. The fort is divided into four main sections each with its own entry gate and courtyard. The main entry to the fort is through the Suraj Pol or Sun Gate which opens up into the main courtyard. Its facing is towards east with respect to the position of the rising sun and hence it is known as Sun Gate. The Jaleb Chowk is one of the four courtyards of the Amber Palace. Jaleb Chowk is an Arabic usage, which means a place for soldiers to assemble. The Sila Devi Temple (an incarnation of Kali or Durga) is situated on the right side of the Jaleb Chowk. The fort is popular for the Diwan-i-Am or the Public Audience Hall, the Sheesh Mahal, Jas Mandir, Jali screens and the Sukh Mahal. A popular attraction here is the ‘Magic Flower’ fresco carved in marble. It also has large gateways, stairways, beautiful palaces, courts and pillared pavilions. The interior wall of the palace displays expressive painting scenes with carvings, precious stones and mirror settings. Travellers can visit this fort every day from 9.30 AM to 4.30 PM except on Holi. Entry fee for an Indian tourist is Rs. 25 and for a foreign national, it is Rs. 200. Elephant rides for two person’s costs around Rs. 900 and it is available for one way only. For More Info: Amber Fort Jaipur and Places to Visit in Jaipur
