Udaipur City Palace is a palace complex situated in Rajasthan

Travel & Tourism
The City Palace complex appears like a fort with domes, towers and arches interlinked with chowks and zigzag corridors. There are eleven palaces inside the complex. Manak Mahal (Ruby Palace) has figures of crystal and porcelain embellished. Bhim Mahal adorns paintings telling the stories of Radha and Lord Krishna. Krishnavilas Palace has miniature paintings of royal processions, festivals and the games of Maharanas. Sheesh Mahal is famous for mirror works and Moti Mahal for lavish decorations. Mardana Mahal (Men’s Palace) and Zenana Mahal (Lady’s Palace) are preserved as museums. Chini Mahal has decorated tiles all over. Fateprakash Palace and Shiv Niwas Palace which are the last to be built are converted in to Heritage hotels now. Udaipur City Palace is a palace complex situated on the east bank of Lake Pichola in the state of Rajasthan. Situated on a hilltop a good view of the nearby monuments like Lake Palace, Jag Mandir, Monsoon Palace and Neemuch Matha Temple can be obtained from City Palace. City Palace a fusion of Rajasthani and Mughal styles of architecture and the museum inside is a major tourist attraction. Maharana Udai Singh of Sisodia clan wanted to shift his capital from Chittor which was under threat from Mughals. While on a hunting expedition in Udaipur forests he met a hermit who suggested that the spot where they met was ideal for a palace as it was surrounded by forests, lakes and Aravalli Hills. Though the construction started in 1559 it took nearly 300 years to complete all the buildings. Behind an 801 ft wide and 100 ft tall façade these structures are built in granite and marble on a ridge close to Pichola Lake. Built in fusion style of Rajasthani, Mughal, Medieval European and Chinese architectural styles the interiors like balconies, towers and cupolas are decorated with marble works, mirror works, in-lay works, murals and paintings. The main gate is called ‘Bara Poll’ and the next one with three arches ‘Tripolia’. In between these gates there are 8 ‘Toranas’ where Rajas used to weigh themselves in gold and silver. Amarvilas the highest point has a hanging garden with fountains from where one can enter the ‘Bari Mahal’ with a central garden and swimming pool. Built on a 27 m high natural rock Bari Mahal gives a good view of the whole city. Suraj Gokhada is the balcony from where Maharana would grant public audience. On Surya Choper (Sun square) there is a huge ornamental sun, the symbol of the dynasty. Biggest temple of the city Jagdish Temple is inside the complex. Some exquisite paintings of the ‘Mewar School’ can be seen in Dilkush Mahal, Bari Mahal and Zenana Mahal. Udaipur airport and Udaipur railway station connect the city with other major cities.
