Why Can't the Search Engines Figure Out My Site Without SEO

Internet Marketing
Had search engines been like humans, they would have surely be capable of watching a website as we do. Unfortunately, search engines are just search engines and can never have the vision, acumen, and intelligence of a human. Human brain is absolutely amazing; search engines cannot ever, at least we believe, match the capability of a human brain. Despite thousands of hours of programming and complex algorithms, search engines cannot even be compared to human brain, as these cannot view or read the data (or content) as clearly and in a way that humans can. A human can, within few seconds, find out the relevancy of a page with his/her query, whereas a search engine crawler would do nothing but store all the content and information in its database in a categorized manner, and return the page based on the query that is put by the user.

Search Engines are Merely Programs

So, if you see it in an actual manner, search engine works more like a machine, and not like human or human brain. In spite of huge developments in the field of technology, we are far away from making anything that can be even near to human brain. Now, coming to the main point and the topic of this article – why can’t the search engine figure out my website without SEO? It is actually a very good question, and people have been asking it ever since emergence of search engines and SEO. Actually, it all started when webmasters were not able to locate their websites on search engine despite good content on their websites. As there, generally, is less of direct traffic on the website and more of search engine driven, the websites weren’t visited to their potential. Most of the webmasters reported success with attracting web traffic after they got their websites optimized for certain keywords. This is where SEO came to be popular.

SEO Acts as Indicators

Seeing it all technically, search engines also need some guidelines and indicators in order to return queries. These indicators lie embedded within your website and this is where SEO has a vital role to play. Search engines are actually a program, relying on a lot of signals and indicators found on the website in the form of labels, text, meta-tags, image captions, etc. The websites are categorized and queries are returned based on their set relevancy and content. In a layman’s language, you can say that these indicators are helpful for search engine to categorize and mark your website and its content in a proper way. Without these indicators on a website, the search engine crawlers may feel lost and can go ahead on another site without considering your website. The end result is that in spite of your website being more informative, better, and highly relevant to what end-user is searching, it doesn’t show up in the search engine. The truth behind the fact is that without pointers or keywords, the search engines will not be able to consider your website to be as important as it actually is (in terms of information that end-user is seeking).

Search Engines and SEO

Lately, things have changed a lot. With improvement in technology, some of the experts have even questioned the existence and functionality of SEO. Search engines, especially Google, have updated their algorithm and taken up new technology to provide better, more meaningful, more relevant, and spam-free results to the end-user. According to the search engines, they are able to bring forth the best available content for the end-user, which is also based on the users’ available data, including their likes, interests, and much more. Search engines, with the introduction of updates (Florida, Panda, and Penguin in case of Google) have tried to push back the spammers and webmasters who have failed to provide unique content. In addition to this, Google, per reports, has also punished the portals with below-par content quality and over-usage of keywords. All in all, search engines are working very hard to bring forth the most relevant and accurate results to its end-users.

SEO Always Scores

Believe it or not, SEO has played (and will always play) quite a big role in how search engines return their queries. A website that is better optimized (not under- or over-optimized) surely holds edge over the website that has not had its search engine optimization done. The best part is that the results can be seen! Rightly optimized websites have witnessed increase in their organic traffic and have moved up the search engine rankings for certain keywords.
