Established in 1974, this program that focuses on book publishing and magazine publishing has earned several accolades for academic excellence and for the career success of its graduates. In order to ensure that students are ready for the field in just two semesters the book publishing and magazine publishing courses of this program move at an intense pace. The one-year accelerated format covers all facets of the publishing process including e-books. Specific courses include: Publishing, Editing, Book Production, Magazine Marketing, Magazine Editing, Book Marketing and Sales, Application of Publication Design and more. To round out training and give students a taste of the book publishing and magazine publishing field, partaking in publishing On the Danforth magazine twice a year is a part of the program. This sees them in various positions encountering duties that they will experience in the field. Aside from this practical experience, students complement their Centennial College training with an industry field placement at a book publishing or magazine publishing company in Toronto, where they'll acquire critical working experience, industry knowledge and professional relationships as you initiate their new career. It is worth noting that the program is associated with Centennial College Press, a commercial publishing operation. To apply for the Magazine Publishing, which teaches them the skills they need to succeed in book publishing or magazine publishing, students are required to submit an official transcript demonstrating proof of successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree program. Centennial College will also consider applicants presenting a combination of partial post-secondary education and relevant work experience. Additionally, they must attend a program admission session that includes editing exercises, presentation of a portfolio of writing and a resume. Please note that a minimum C grade is required in all courses for graduation.
