The right shoe care is very important for shoes, to increase their longevity and maintain their quality so that they are always comfortable for us. With the exhaustive wear and tear we out our shoes into, it's no wonder that their average lifespan seems to become no more than a season or two. But with the right care, you can spruce up all your sandals, flats, stilettos and boots so they look new and shiny for a lot longer. In this article, I will be providing some tips following which you can take care of your shoes: Use cedar shoe trees- On a normal day, your feet produces 1/4th cup of moisture and ½ cup when active. Cedar trees can help extend the lifespan of your leather shoes up to 3 times their expected life span. They help in drawing out the moisture from the shoes, re-awaken the shoe's natural luster and prevent the leather from cracking and wrinkling. Rotate your shoes- Your shoes need a day off. If you want your shoes to last longer, avoid wearing them consecutively for 3- 4 days. Add a protective sole- Add a rubber sole to protect your shoes and prolong it's life. This rubber top sole is stylishly thin and protects the outer sole from wear and tear. Use skid proof and water resistant soles for added protection. Use a shoe horn- Always use a shoe horn when putting on your shoes. This will save the heel collar and counter from unnecessary wear. Clean- Cleaning your shoes is important on a regular basis, depending on how frequently you use the shoes. The method you choose to clean the shoe depends on the shoe's material. Use a leather lotion to polish and condition your leather shoes. Here is how you clean leather shoes: Use a leather cleaner to get the grime and dirt off the top. Abstain from using cleaners that contain acids or detergents as both of these have adverse effect on leather and can age the shoe. You can use saddle soap with water for a better cleaning. Rinse the saddle soap properly, as any residual will damage leather in the same way as residual soap lather on your skin will cause excessive drying to your skin and damage it. Detergents take away the natural oils from the leather, causing it to dry and crack. For leather shoes, conditioning is a must. Apply the leather conditioner when the shoes are still moist after a good cleaning. Use a good quality conditioner containing lanolin. Set your cleaned and conditioned shoes aside for 24 hours so that they dry completely. Before wearing, apply boot polish or wax, and buff to shine. Use wax, cream polish or paste to shine the shoes. The polish should match the shoes. If you are planning to buy shoes, you can check out for good shoes online .
