Posted: May 17th, 2012 Motorized Microscope Stage is Driven by High-Accuracy CeramicLinear Motors ( Nanowerk News ) PI's new M-687 motorized microscope XY stage system for invertedmicroscopes is more compact and stable than traditional computercontrollable microscope stages, due to its fully integrated,miniaturized ceramic linear drives. The M-687 is delivered as acomplete system including a controller, joystick and software. Self-Locking Piezo Linear Motors and High Resolution LinearEncoders, Up to 10X Higher Stability The self-clamping ceramic /ceramic linear motors in the M-687 XY positioner are not only morecompact than electromagnetic motors, but also provide significantlyhigher positional stability for the following reasons: once inplace, no energy is consumed to hold position (no heatdissipation); no leadscrews that heat up due to friction duringmotion and cause drift cooling down once the motion stops; no creepcaused by lubricant flow in the drive mechanism. The exceptionalstability is a great advantage in long term imaging applications. In addition to the high-precision motors, integrated, 100 nanometerresolution linear encoders provide direct position feedback to thecontroller allowing closed-loop operation with high accuracy.
