This is great when one is going on a cycling tour since the sightseeing becomes so much more effortless. However, apart from these, the fixies do not have another major part as well, i.e. the brakes. It is possible to stop a fixie only by handling the turning crank. Naturally, when one is going at a high speed, it is not possible to stop the cycle on time and accidents might be severe. In fact, for these very reasons, a fixie is banned in many countries of the world. While cycling, one has to pay a lot of attention and it would be foolish and suicidal to go beyond a certain speed on a busy road. Again, it has been seen that the riders try to drag the feet on the ground to stop the bike and if this step is misplaced due to the speed, there might be serious injury to the leg as well. So, one should opt for a fixed gear bike only after a lot of deliberation.
