Cubbon Park is one of the finest attractions placed at the heart of the Garden City of India, Bangalore. At first, the park was spread over 100 miles, but later the area of the park was extended. Now it is about 300 miles. It was started in 1870 by Significant Common Wealthy Sankey, who was the then English Main Professional of Mysore. The Cubbon Park in Bangalore has an outstanding documented record. It has a great variety of plant species. In addition to the plants, there are a few structures and sculptures of well known people in this park. Cubbon Recreation Park has turned out to be a shining gem of Bangalore. In the beginning, the park was named as ‘Meade’s Park’, after Sir David Meade, who was the Commissioner of Mysore. In 1870, it was renamed as Cubbon Park in honor of the best commissioner of the time, Sir Level Cubbon. Again in 1927, the park was relabeled as ‘Sri Chamarajendra Park’ as an honor of the Gold Jubilee of Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar’s concept in Mysore State and also as the tribute to the popular Nineteenth Millennium leader of the Mysore, Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar (1868 – 94). It must be remembered that it was under the headship of Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar that the park came into existence. The shape and landscape designs of the park are mainly covered with shrubs like bamboos, lawns and flowerbeds, to list a few. Cubbon Park in Bangalore houses a few of typical monuments as well. The park is under the control of Farming Division of the Government of Karnataka. Furthermore, the park also has streets where vehicles are permitted other than strolling routes. Main visitors of the park are casual walkers and natural admirers who like to relax in the greenery. A number of exceptional organic types can be seen in Cubbon Park at Bangalore. There are more than 6000 types of organic vegetation including artocarpus, cassia fistula, ficus and polyalthias. A few of the exclusive types found in this park are araucaria, grevillea robusta, millettia, peltophorum, schinus molle, swietenia mahagoni and tabebuia to name a few. Situated at the heart of the city, the Cubbon Park in Bangalore can be reached from M.G. Street, Kasturba road, Hudson Group and Ambedkar Veedhi. The roads that cross through the park permit only light vehicles. With the exception of this, every other places of the park can be covered by walking or are strolling routes. Even if the park is open to public for the whole day, the streets inside will be closed for traffic from 5 A.M to 8 A.M on a daily basis.
