India is a country where people are more dependent on trains and railway stations. Government of India has taken special care to make the stations fit to be seen. This is done in order to give a good impression among the visitors from different countries and also to provide better facilities to Indian citizens. Howrah Railway Station is one of the finest stations of India. Special care has been given to watch over one of the largest railway terminals in the entire world. The station is located in the town of Howrah in the Indian state of West Bengal. The town of Howrah and state capital Kolkata are separated by Hooghly River. Yet both these places are well connected by means of rail, road and water transport. Howrah Railway Station was established in the year 1854. The first train from this station was operated from Howrah to Panda in the same year. From then onwards, Howrah Station in Kolkata has been providing services to the major towns of the country and thus connects this town with the rest of India. Howrah Railway Station has two adjacent or neighboring terminals namely the old and the new one. The old terminal pays attention to the traveling requirements of the travelers of both South Eastern as well as Eastern Railways. The new one fulfills the travel needs of the South Eastern Railways only. Rajdhani and Shatabdi are the two main trains that run to and from the station. Howrah Railway Station also houses a hotel named Yatri Nivas. The hotel provides facilities to the travelers who have missed the trains or who are planning for a break journey. This hotel provides nearly all of the conveniences that are in fact required by the passengers such as running water, facility of room service and reception desk facility to assist the passengers. A few of the other places of accommodation near by the railway terminal are Hotel Meghdoot, Hotel Balaji, Hotel Saket, Hotel Cosy, The Ashoka Hotel, Natraj Hotel, Centaur Hotel, The New Ashoka Hotel and Hotel Piyush. Majority of these hotels can be reached easily and has all the facilities to make the guests comfortable. Each and every one of these hotels is noted for their hospitality and they welcome their guests with so much of warmth and generosity. These hotels offer mouth watering Bengali dishes and sweets, which is also the main highlight of them. As a guest, you will certainly feel relaxed and at ease. Some of the nearby places that are worth seeing and also known as the favorite tourist destinations are Botanical Garden, Belur Math and the world famous Howrah Bridge.
