Netherlands can be defined as one of the most exotic places in the world. It is home to world class museums and is a destination known for its solitary culture. It’s callous to describe the Dutch culture in a few words. It’s better to experience it. Try a canal tour through Amsterdam, brood over Dutch history at Zaanse Schans, feast on herrings in Volendam, explore the cheese market of Gouda, feast your eyes at the cathedral of Den Bosch and the basilicas of Maastrich. If you are an adventure freak, climb the Dom Tower in Utrecht or pay a visit to the mills of Kinderdijk, and brisk through the bulb fields of Giethoorn and along the dolmens. Even after all this you would have seen only a fraction of what Holland has to offer and will already be astounded by it. Netherland has been home to many acclaimed writers like Joost van den Vondel, P.C. Hooft, Cees Nooteboom, Simon Vestdijk and Willem Frederik Hermans. Architecture of the Netherlands was absolutely historic and rare during the Dutch Golden Age roughly at the start of the 17th century. Due to the booming economy, cities bolstered greatly. New town halls, art centers and museums and storehouses were built. Merchants who had made a huge fortune strived hard to build new houses built along one of the many new canals that were dug out in and around various cities like Amsterdam (for defense and transport purposes). It was like palatial homes with an embellished façade that was apt and reflected their new status. Netherlands is also famous for its notable events and festivals. Holland offers many events, festivals, markets, parades, expositions. These festivals and events are organized throughout the country in every season. Spring is mainly the time which endeavors flower parades and cheese markets. In summer, there's a wealth of dance, music and theatre festivals; autumn is the time for art and culture, and Sinterklaas and the Christmas markets bring warmth to cold winter months. The largest national event is celebrated every year on 30 April: Queen's Day. It's a must to come and see Holland turn orange for this event! Here, you'll find a synopsis of the annual events that are celebrated during the month of your visit. The heritage and culture has always played a pivotal part in the Dutch Tourism industry. Netherlands is home to a number of museums that reflects how rich the country is in its culture and heritage. Amsterdam has the paramount museum density in the world and is home to cultural focal points such as the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House, Hermitage Amsterdam and the Rijksmuseum with Rembrandt’s world-famous Nightwatch. Other world renowned places of interest in Amsterdam are the Palace on the Dam, the Artis Zoo, Jewish Historical Museum and the Rembrandt House. Shopping doesn't play second fiddle to anything in the Netherlands. Many people like to fit in an afternoon of shopping in their plans whilst holidaying in Netherlands. While one person likes fashion, shoes and jewellery, another loves art and design and yet another prefers literature and music. Fortunately Holland has countless special shops for each of them. And in many big cities, the shops are open on Sunday as well. You can opt to shop in the Hague Market, which is one of the biggest markets in the Europe. Netherlands is also homes to countless wellness & spa facilities, in case you are tired after a hectic afternoon of shopping, you can unwind in these world class facilities. Netherlands is also home 8 UNESCO listed World Heritage Sites. The main world heritage attractions in Netherlands are Canals of Amsterdam, Defense Line of Amsterdam, The Beemster Polder and Wadden Sea. The main cities to visit in Netherlands are Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. Amsterdam is considered as one of the jewels of Europe, and not just because of the stunning 17th century canals but also the distinguished architecture.
