The Horses What can be a more authentic way to explore the island than on a genuine Menorcan horse? There are many outfits that offer tourists a chance to do so, and at least one will be within easy access of some of the best Menorca villas that dot the island. But regardless of where you may be staying, you can still easily take part in a horseback riding experience along well-established trails in the company of an experienced guide. For this purpose, Menorquin and Andalusian horses are used and they are carefully selected for their endurance, personality, size and general disposition. Such horses are known to be friendly and calm and can handle even the most difficult terrain. A horseback riding itinerary around the island is usually slow-paced, but it significantly helps if the horses are dependable and sufficiently responsive to the needs of those with little experience in riding. The Trail Exploring the island on horseback is usually done on well-established trails for convenience, safety and comfort. If you’re on holiday in one of the great Menorca villas with your family or friends, then the fun is multiplied: rides are designed for a small group, anyway, although most organisers cap the number at a maximum of ten persons. The focus here is fun, not tedium, that’s why the trails are a delightful mix of different terrains—from inland trails outward to the coastal areas, specifically along picturesque beaches, then proceeding to ride across sand dunes and around breathtaking cliffs. Beyond Adventure Those visitors adventurous enough to experience a horseback riding activity across the island report discovering a hitherto undiscovered passion for horses. So, for those who come back on a return visit, there are stables throughout the island that offer lessons to improve to a higher level, as well as on the finer aspects of dressage. These lessons, of course, are undertaken around the island, under the guidance of experienced teachers.
