Metals play a very important role in the manufacturing of automobiles, aircraft industry and the construction industry. These sectors require malleable metal for manufacturing a variety of products. It is precisely for this reason why most manufacturing units have their own forging unit. The forging process involves molding of metals through different methods. The process differs from one metal to the other and is based on the temperature. This process involves using a variety of lubricants like graphite, glass, synthetics and MoS2. Normally, the forging is done at temperatures of 1300 degrees Celsius and later on at a lower temperature of 750 degree Celsius. One of the most common forging methods is the seamless rolled rings forging. Let us understand what this is. Understanding the Process When used in the aircraft industry, seamless rolled rings forging involve punching a hole through a thick metal piece to give it a doughnut shape. Next, the doughnut shaped metal pieces are squeezed and rolled into a ring, whose diameter varies and is dependent on the metal quantity to be forged. These rings can be forged into cylindrical or flat shapes and their height also is quite flexible, ranging from half an inch to over nine feet. The shape and height of these rings are based on the kind of equipment being used. In a normal forging process, the common ratio is 1:16 at the bottom while it is 16:1 at the top. However, this can vary according to the requirements. This process is very critical for enhancing the strength and malleability of metals so that they are perfectly suitable to pressure resistant components like aircraft engines, rotor pacers, gears, couplings, pressure vessels, flanges, wheel bearings, valve bodies, etc. Knowing more about Stainless Steel Valves Steel valves essentially refer to valves made up of stainless steel. These valves help in regulating the flow of fluids like liquids, gases and slurries by either opening or closing different passageways. In some instances, valves also obstruct the flow partially. There are different kinds of steel valves available. Some of them include: ball valves, plug valve, check valve, gate valves, needle valve, steam traps, baiting valve, butterfly valve, air operated valves, etc. These valves are corrosion resistant, low on maintenance and low on cost. This makes it an ideal base for a wide range of commercial applications. These are some of the reasons why these valves are used in the paper industry, petrochemicals, mining, oil and gas, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food, electronics, irrigation, construction, mechanical equipment and a host of other applications.
