When compared with Mallorca, Menorca’s nightlife can certainly be considered less intense. But what it lacks in sheer energy, it smoothly makes up for it in terms of variety and a different level of verve. So if you’re visiting the island and staying at one of the charming Bartle Holidays villas or authentic retreats, you should know where and when to go. The following are some of the best nightlife destinations in the island – and, while naturally some of them may be a drive away in the larger cities of Mao and Mahon, it is well worth the effort. Mambo Located right on the harbour at Mao, still within an easy drive of many a Bartle Holidays villa or apartment, Mambo is a family-friendly bar by day—serving casual dining fare, snacks, and even ice cream to a tourists-dominated clientele. By night, however, as soon as the sun dips in the horizon, Mambo sheds its casual dining façade and shifts to a livelier mood. Playing all types of music and serving an amazing variety of drinks and cocktails, the bar is a long-time favourite among locals and tourists. Mambo’s huge terrace area is perfect for relaxing and people watching, especially to the accompaniment of merry music. Latitud 40 The locals flock to Latitud 40, in Mahon; so much that visitors are naturally drawn to it, initially perhaps by curiosity. The bar, however, smoothly survives first impressions, as many tourists return to it to enjoy its lively ambience, contemporary music, and sheer all-night fun. It's well worth a drive to spend a wonderful evening here. Akelarre If you love live music and interesting cocktail concoctions, then Akelarre (also in Mahon) is the places to visit for an evening out. If there’s any compelling reason to leave the cosy comforts of your Bartle Holidays villa, it’s a night of fun here! Located conveniently near the harbour ferry terminal, Akelarre serves the kind of cocktails enjoyed by the locals as far back as a hundred years ago—so you can be sure you're actually enjoying something somebody from the turn of the 19th century also enjoyed! Certainly a unique prospect! Akelarre has a lovely garden area where visitors can get some fresh air before heading back to the intense disco scene on the second floor. H2O Catering mostly to those in their late twenties, the H20 bar (in Mao) is the preferred hangout of those who enjoy well-chosen, contemporary music in an ambience that oozes modern sophistication. Cova d’en Xoroi One of the most interesting bars on the island, Cova d’en Xoroi is perched at an altitude of 25 metres above sea level at one of the highest places in Cala’n Porter. What’s amazing about the bar (and what makes it worthwhile to visit, even if you’re coming from one of those Bartle Holidays apartments downtown) is the fact that the bar is set within natural caves, giving visitors spectacular ocean views, especially at sunset. At night, the bar becomes a full-fledged modern nightclub, hosting live musical performances and playing the latest dance tunes until the crack of dawn.
