The bathroom is usually the smallest room of the house. However, many homeowners quickly find that decorating this room is no simple task. Bathroom decor can be expensive and all of the small items can quickly add up. To avoid spending a bundle on an attractive kitchen & bathroom, try incorporating some more frugal tips and techniques into your design. Walls and Floor Painting a bathroom can be a very economical project since the room is so small and most of the stone wall space is taken up with tile, mirrors and cabinets. Go for a bright, bold color that you wouldn't be brave enough to use in any other room. The bathroom is so small that it can handle it, and the pop of color will instantly transform the room. Vinyl flooring can be painted as well. Begin with a primer formulated for just this purpose. You can then paint the flooring in any color or pattern that you would like. Play with stencils for a bold new design. When you're finished painting, cover the floor with polyurethane. Four to six coats will seal the paint job, leaving you with a new bathroom floor. Shower Curtains A nice shower curtain can run anywhere from $40 to more than $100. With a sewing cleaning machine and a flat sheet, you can make your own for next to nothing. Simply hem the top and bottom of the sheet to the desired length for your shower. Then, use grommets to make holes for the shower curtain rings to go through. Use the money you've saved to invest in a nice cloth shower curtain liner that can be easily laundered when it starts to get dirty. Functional Accessories Items such as a soap dish and toothbrush holder are necessities in most bathrooms. Before you visit a home decor store for a matched set, visit your local Goodwill. You can use anything from a regular cup to a decorative vase as a toothbrush holder. These have the added benefit of being much easier to clean than those with holes in the top where you can't get to the grungy bottom of the cup. Look for unique items with a fun pattern or engravings that will make a fun accessory in your bathroom. For a soap dish, you can use any type of small plate and may find some interesting bread plates or butter dishes that can serve your purpose. The key to using items like this is to search out very distinct designs that will give your bathroom a quirky, yet purposefully decorative look. Decorative Accessories Bathrooms don't offer a lot of space for adding decorations. Small baskets can become your best friend here. Go to any Goodwill store and you will find an aisle overflowing with baskets of every shape, color, and size -- usually for less than a dollar. Select a few baskets of varying sizes, and put them to work in your bathroom. A small basket set beside the bathtub with rolled towels in it makes a nice amenity for a guest bathroom. A long, narrow basket on the back of the toilet can be used to hold a few magazines. Spruce up these baskets with a piece of thick colorful ribbon woven around the top of the basket or with a brightly colored liner. Finally, let me have a conclusion.
