Home decorating is an essential part of living. A person can use variety of fabrics to decorate home. One can choose different home decorating themes, designs, patterns to make their home look beautiful. Fabrics are also used for making couch covers, slip-covers, bed covers, window treatments, table covers, upholstery and much more. One of the best fabrics used these days for home furnishing and apparels is tartan and plaid fabric. Tartan is woven with alternative stripes which create horizontal and vertical patterns. Plaid is also same design of horizontal and vertical stripes which are woven into fabric. Any color, yarn or variety of weaving techniques can be used to create this fabric. Tartan and plaid fabric are one of the best fabrics used for home furnishing and clothing. This fabric helps in making covers, curtains, drapes, blankets etc. It is also used to make variety of patterns, designs and helps in providing a different look to home. Tartan is made with coloured thread of alternating bands woven as warp and weft at right angle to each other. It is also known as plaid. It is available in different styles like tartan flannel, tartan poplin fabric, tartan ribbon and much more. There are some types of plaid fabric which are listed below: Madras Plaid- In the late 1800s, this fabric was brought from Madras. This fabric is made with bright colors to give prints on the lightweight cotton fabric. It is perfect in summers and used for making summer jackets, shorts and many other clothing. This fabric gives classy look to the clothes. Tartans- This is also a plaid uses dark colors like red, blue, magenta etc on wool fabric. Most of the people use tartans for making their apparels. Tartan fabric and patterns are now used in various clothing and accessories. The clothes made with this fabric are very stylish. Glen Plaid- This houndstooth design is a blend of small and large checks. This fabric is mostly used in making men and women blazers, jackets and overcoats. It is also used with other patterns and on other items of clothing like silk ties, scarf’s, handkerchief and lots more. This type of Tartan and plaid fabric is very famous. Buffalo Check Plaid- In two alternating colors, this pattern is made of large square checks. Buffalo check plaid shirts were first made in 1850s. This fabric is used in dark colors.
