When most men learn to shave they learn by watching their fathers when they are young boys. They usually have fond memories of putting shaving cream on their faces, and then their fathers giving them a razor without a blade in it. They have recollections of sitting in with their feet in the sink, and the water running, while they ran the razor over their face. That technique, no matter how cute, is not always the best way to learn how to shave. The art of shaving is a lost art. In the old days, many barbers prided themselves on giving a gentleman a good close shave. They would practically get a facial when they went to receive a shave. The barber would first lay them down in a barber chair and place a hot towel on their faces. This would sit for several minutes on their face cleaning it and allowing the pores to open and the whiskers to stand up. After the hot towel the barber would apply shaving cream from a cup with a bristled brush. The shaving cream would be applied in a circular motion with the brush, allowing the whiskers to stand up easier and causing the face to get an exfoliation at the same time. The barber then would take a sharpened razor blade and begin to remove the whiskers. After the face was shaven the barbers would then apply a tonic that would help to close the pores on the face, and would leave their client smelling fresh. The art of shaving a man with this technique is becoming popular again. Men are starting to pamper themselves by enjoying a nice relaxing shave from their favorite barber. The next time you are thinking of a gift for the man in your life, maybe you could give them an old fashion shave from your local barber. The Art of Shaving has become the best-selling men’s brand at high-end department stores. Their own stores can be found in over 66 locations nationwide.
