The AWT6264 power amplifier from Anadigics drives the WiMAXconnectivity in Samsung"s recently released Epic TM 4G handset. The Samsung Epic 4G, offered by Sprint and part of Samsung"sGalaxy S TM series, is one of the most highly anticipated smartphonesintroduced this year running Google"s Android operatingsystem and is enabled for mobile WiMAX services. The Epic 4G alsomarks the first WiMAX-enabled smartphone for the North Americanconsumer market featuring ANADIGICS power amplifiers (PA). The AWT6264 delivers high output power, exceptional linearity andextremely high efficiency for world-wide mobile WiMAX coverage ofthe 2.3-2.7 GHz spectrum.
This PA supports 4G wireless connectivitydevices, including smartphones, mobile internet devices,netbook/notebook PCs, and PC cards/USB dongles. "We have a valued, long-standing relationship with Samsung inproviding solutions across a broad range of wireless and 3Gstandards," said Michael Canonico, Vice President, WorldwideSales for ANADIGICS. "With the introduction of the Epicsmartphone, our AWT6264 product is now playing a key role inbringing 4G features to end users as well. According to Samsung, the Epic 4G is part of a new breed ofsmartphones that offer the best in screen, speed and contentquality for a premium end-user experience, while also providing afully integrated multimedia, messaging and social networkingexperience. The Samsung Epic 4G also features an exceptionally thinsmartphone design with a slide out, full QWERTY keyboard and 4-inchSuper AMOLED touchscreen display.

ANADIGICS" AWT6264 PA is a small 4 mm x 4 mm x 1 mm devicethat delivers high output power, linearity and efficiency for highdata rate WiMAX signals. With an integrated step attenuator andfeaturing fully-matched RF ports, it supports faster productdevelopment cycles and requires less PC board space than other,more discrete solutions. Specific features of the AWT6264 include: Delivering +25 dBm linear output power, meeting WiMAX spectrummask. Contributing typically 2.5 percent EVM.
Providing 32 dB of RF gain. Operating with a typical power-added efficiency of 24 percent.
