Witness Nature at Its Best during a Ladakh Tour

Travel & Tourism
Bounded by the two largest mountain ranges in the world – Karakoram and the Great Himalayas, Ladakh is a much preferred adventure destination in India. Located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, this remote area boasts of numerous historic Buddhist monasteries like the Thiksey Monastery and Hemis Monastery that make it an incredible sight to behold. Furthermore, the Ladakh tour gives travelers a chance to explore unparalleled natural beauty with its gurgling rivers, lush green valleys and snow-capped mountains of the majestic Himalayas. Known by sobriquets like Little Tibet, The Moon Land and The Last Shangri-La, this mystical land makes for a dream holiday location for travelers from across the globe. Some of the most popular attractions of this spectacular mountainous region are Suru Valley, Nubra Valley, Tsomoriri Lake, Kargil, Zanskar Valley, Lamayuru, Pangong Lake, Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace.

Climate in Ladakh

A favourite holiday spot among adventure seekers, Ladakh is characteristic of extreme climatic conditions. Thus, it is recommended for tourists to be aware of the weather so that they can survive the sudden changes in the environment. Notably, the passes in the area are open for tourists only in summers that last from June to September. During this season, the temperature remains moderate with the average ranging between 20° and 30° C. The skies usually remain clear at this time of the year; hence, tourists can get a panoramic view of the spectacular surroundings. Ideal weather conditions during summers also make it a perfect time for activities like trekking and mountaineering in the region. The months of July and August comprise the peak season for trekkers.

Monsoons are intermittent here and are thus not confined to any particular season. Occasional showers may occur at any time, but this does not affect the tourist season to a great deal. From October through May, the region experiences extreme cold with mercury levels coming down to as low as -20°C. Snowfall is a common occurrence during this season, which makes it very difficult to travel through the passes. Owing to the inhospitable climate, the district is isolated from the rest of the world during the winter season. However, tourists must keep in mind that even during summer they can suffer from sicknesses like headache, nausea, irregular breathing and fatigue due to high altitude. It is thus advisable to take some basic precautions, such as drinking warm water and adequate rest for a day or two, unless they get used to low oxygen.

Those interested in travelling to this spectacular destination can take a flight to Leh from Srinagar, Jammu or Delhi. Another alternative is to undertake a 2-day long road trip via Rohtang Pass along the Manali-Leh Highway that is open from June to November each year. Buses, taxis and jeeps are easily available for Leh Ladakh tour from the hill station.
