I know you've seen them...the spoof sales pages. You know the ones I'm talking about. Pages like "Buy My Stupid Ebook" which may go down in history as an all time classic. However, do you REALLY understand the method behind such madness? Even more importantly, do you understand how effective this technique can be if you use it properly and target the right market? I'm going to explore the use of outrageous copy, not just for shock value, but for the purpose of actually making sales. You should find this article most interesting. First of all, you need to understand why outrageous copy works. It works because people, regardless of what niche you're in, love to be entertained. All work and no play...well, you know the saying. So when somebody bumps into copy that is a little off the beaten track, they're not only going to enjoy reading it, but they're going to enjoy sharing it with others as well. Everybody loves to share things that will make others talk about it. It's kind if like, you're the one who actually made the copy. It's a psychological thing. The point is, once this sales page starts to get noticed, it's also going to start to get sales, provided the page itself has been set up to be monetized. Many of them are not. But what about outrageous sales copy in a legit product? Can it work? Well, it depends on your target market. If you're selling a natural treatment for cancer, I don't think your target market is going to be much in the mood for laughter. However, if you're targeting a video game market, then you can pretty much get away with just about anything. You're in the entertainment industry to begin with, so making your sales copy as outrageous as you can, without going into the area of poor taste, may actually increase sales immensely. Ultimately, it all comes down to split testing your copy. What you do is make one version of it that is straight laced and to the point and then make another version that is as outrageous as you want to make it. See which one converts better. I think you will find that in the more business oriented niches, the straight copy will convert better and in the entertainment niches, the outrageous one will. Again, it really depends on who your target market is. Point is, don't think that your sales pitch has to be bland and boring to be effective. You can write some pretty crazy stuff and get results.
