We have seen surfers doing their jig in the ocean. But man is constantly seeking something new and that is why they have come up with variations of surfing. Things like skim boarding and stand up paddling is emerging as a new form of water sports. Though both these sports have some similarities with traditional surfing, by and large they are quite different. Skim boarding is used to glide across the water surface much like surfing, but the action begins from the beach. The skim boarder starts to glide on the thin film of water on the sand and in that momentum he/she moves towards the water. Finally they gain speed and skim though the waves. This sport started to take shape in California when the lifeguards sought an easy way of moving from one end of the beach to another. Though the sport is similar to surfing, the main difference is the surfing board. Normally a surfing board is quite huge, but the skim boards are smaller than them and do not have fins. Top quality boards for skim boarding are constructed from 5-ply maple wood. They are pressed at 60 ton with the help of marine grade glue in a 5-axis rocker pattern. UV coating is given to the boards to reduce wear and tear while skim boarding. Most of these boards come with stylish graphics. These are heat transfer graphics and serve a specific purpose. They are created to catch the eye of the people around so that they are aware of the skimmers presence and move out of the way. But the use of these boards is not restricted to beaches only. People can use it on any surface like rails, and channels. Ideally any surface where skim boarding can take place can help the board perform. Another type of water sport that is quite similar to surfing is stand up paddle surfing. Here the surfer remains standing on the surfing board and use an oar to paddle forward. The sport requires a lot of balance and concentration. This sport started in Hawaii and it became popular within just a decade. From the beaches it went to all other types of water courses that could facilitate the water sport. Here, the sports person need a surfing board made specifically for this sport and wet suits for the agility and ease of movement. Stand up paddle board is also called boarding circle and is quite similar to the surfing board. Special attention is given to its make and finish as the board is the only support a surfer has while facing the waves and the lashes of water. The paddle also needs to be sturdy and most of the times; it is made of fiber glass. While several companies manufacture these boards and accessories for the water sports, it is best to but items from those companies that have a name in this field and some experience in this section. One must not compromise on quality for the price as the price charged is deserving of the quality.
