Singapore is a small island nation located in Southeast Asia, just south of the Malay Peninsula. For his bravery he was given an elixir of immortality which guaranteed him a place in the heavens, yet Hou Yi presented the elixir to his wife to keep safe. However Peng Meng, who saw the elixir, demanded it from Change E, and to avoid it falling into the wrong hands she immediately swallowed it, sending her to the moon. It is for this selfless act that people celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. In China, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore, the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated vibrantly, and usually lasts three days. The celebrations are accompanied with the making of mooncakes dedicated to the valour of Chang E, while people also visit temples and light incense and perform various rituals. These rituals also include dragon dances and obeisance to the moon. At homes people spend time with their families appreciating the moon and the festivities related to the Mid-Autumn Festival while also bestowing blessings on their loved ones and ancestors.
