This monastery was established by Lama Lhodak Marpa Choski Lodos and is a part of the Tsongkhapa order. This gompa lies at a distance of around 18 km from the town of Padum. There numerous holy shrines in the complex of this monastery that epitomise the legacy of the Buddhist monastics. The excellent wall paintings in the interior of the monastery are worth admiring. This gompa is home to more than 60 monks.
Gustor Festival at Stongdey Every year in this monastery, the Gustor Festival is held with much fan fare. It is celebrated annually, during which the monks perform holy dance and other important rituals of the festival. Locals throng in large numbers to partake in the celebrations.
How to Reach
To reach this monastery, you will have to travel via the Kargil-Padum road, which is about 240 km and remains open from July to November. However prior to July, you would need to walk till the Zanskar region. Since the road to this place is quite rough and difficult towards the monastery, you will have to trek your way up. This can be an arduous task, but once you reach you will be ecstatic after witnessing the monastery.
