A year after senior crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey was gunned down insuburban Powai, city police are still awaiting reports fromforensic laboratory on the analysis of mobile phones, memory cardsand computers allegedly used by journalist Jigna Vora, who wasarrested in connection with the murder. The investigators say that they have requested the Kalina ForensicScience Laboratory (FSL) to prepare the reports and hand them overat the earliest. "We will try to get the reports before the trial commences inthe case," said a crime branch official. However, the official added they had sufficient and concreteevidence against Ms. Vora and other arrested accused. "The forensic reports will further strengthen the case andnot contradict the evidence we gathered earlier," the officeradded. The Crime Branch had seized seven mobile phones, some SIM cards andmemory cards, a laptop and an office computer that were allegedlyused by Ms. Vora at different times that led to the killing. The FSL officials said the delay was owing to a huge backlog ofcases pending with the laboratory. In February this year, Mumbai police filed a supplementary chargesheet against Ms. Vora, Deputy Chief of Bureau of Asian Age , for her alleged role in the murder, calling her an"instigator", three months after her arrest. Police cited "strong" circumstantial, electronic andtestimonial evidences. Dey, a senior investigating editor with a tabloid MiD Day , was shot dead on June 11 last year in Powai. Ms. Vora wasarrested on November 25 and has been in jail since then. The scribe was claimed to have been shot dead on the orders ofunderworld don Chhota Rajan, who allegedly gave Rs 5 lakh to theaccused for the contract killing. Police claimed that professional rivalry between Ms. Vora andJyotirmoy Dey was the reason for the latter's murder. Ms.Vora provoked Rajan, who conspired and killed Dey, police said. The accused against whom charge sheet had been filed last Decemberwere Rohee Thangappan Joseph alias Satish Kalya, Abhijeet Shinde,Arun Dake, Sachin Gaikwad, Anil Waghmode, Nilesh Shendge, MangeshAgawane, Vinod Asrani, Paulson Joseph and Deepak Sisodia.
