When you look at all the phones that Samsung has to offer you will find a number of them fall into the big screen category. It is important that you consider which of these big screen Samsung phones is right for you. Finding the phones for you can be quite a daunting task because of the selection out there. Two of the phones that you should consider are the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.8 and the Samsung Note 2. Both of these phones offer big screens which might make them the right phone for you. The Design of the Phones The first aspect of the two big screen phones that you have to consider is the design. As both of the phones you are comparing are Samsung phones the overall body design will be the same. The Note 2 is by no means a small phone, but when you compare it to the mammoth Mega it seems to fit easily in the hand. However, the Note 2 is actually thicker than the Mega, but this does not limit the advantage it offers in portability. In the overall design the Mega does win because it offers a new take on the chassis pattern. The Note 2 also has the stylus tucked into the back of the design. This is something that is missing from the Mega. Other than the small differences in the appearance of the phones the overall design is the iconic Samsung Inspired by Nature design. The Screen and Display Both of these phones offer the same HD resolution. However, the pixel density in the screen is different. This is due to the technology that is powering the screen. The Note 2 uses the Super AMOLED HD technology that offers a density of 265ppi. This allows the Note 2 to have vibrant colours and amazing viewing angles. However, the Mega uses LCD panel technology which allows a density of 233ppi. The screen is brighter and the colours in the display are warmer with the Mega. The warmer colours offer a more natural hue than you see on the Note 2. The Interface and Functionality Both of these phones run off of the Android Jelly Bean operating system. However, as the Mega is the newer phone it runs on the latest version of 4.2.2. The Note 2 runs on a slightly older version of Jelly Bean which is 4.1.2. There are a number of other functionality perks that have been included with the Mega that are not part of the Note 2. Some of these additions are the use of lock screen widgets and eye tracking as well as gesture navigation which are highlights of the S4. However, this is something that the Note 2 is not taking easily as it strikes back with a range of note taking and drawing apps which use the S Pen you get with the phone. Both of the phones offer the multi-window mode which is part of the Android experience. Some consumers argue that this is better used on the mega because of the larger screen. However, with the use of the S Pen and the hover keyboard you can easily use this function with the Note 2. The Processor and the Memory The Note 2 is powered by a quad-core processor which was top of the range when the phone was created. Most consumers expected that the Mega would use the best processor on the market. However, the Mega is powered by a dual-core processor that is generally found in midrange phones. This lower processor does not actually impact the performance of the phones in common tasks. The two phones perform common tasks at the same rate with the same level of speed. Neither of the phones displays any lagging when tasks are being done. The Note 2 does have 2GB of RAM instead of the 1.5GB of RAM in the Mega. The Note 2 comes in a 16GB version while the Mega comes in 4, 8 and 16GB versions. This does not really impact which phone is better because they both offer microSD slots where you can expand the memory. The Internet and Connectivity The TouchWiz browser that is part of most Samsung devices can be found on both the Note 2 and the Mega. Both of these phones offer fast rendering and the ability to support Adobe Flash. The performance of this browser is slightly choppy on the Mega when compared to the Note 2 performance. However, the larger screen that comes with the Mega does make browsing the internet a much easier task. The additional connectivity offered by these phones is identical. Both of the phones offer Bluetooth 4.0 and have an MHL port at the bottom of the phone for wired connection. The Camera The Note 2 and the Mega both offer an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash. However, the more advanced camera app UI is found in the Mega. The ease of using the camera is much easier with the Mega as many of the settings are located on a single page. However, the actual pictures that you can take are better with the Note 2. The Note 2 offers sharper and more balanced pictures. The video recording done on the phones is on par and the resolution is identical. Multimedia The galleries found on the phone are the same with split-view where you have folder on one side and images on the other. It is possible to edit certain options on the pictures in the gallery and the Note 2 S Pen offers more precision in this. The music players on the phones are the same and they offer identical interfaces. The speakers that you get with both of the phones perform well and are considered to be above average. This is due to the strength of the sound and the clarity. The Call Quality When you look at the call quality the Note 2 does offer the better sounding earpiece and the microphone uses noise cancelling software. This means that the person on the other end gets a much clearer sound and fuller range. Phones for you was just one of the options open to Sam Jones when looking for a new contract. He decided that it might be worth considering if uSwitch and similar sites showed that he could save money.
