The Doctor of Management degree, formerly the Doctor of Professional Studies degree, is the pinnacle degree for the active professional manager. The purpose of the Doctor of Management is to provide active managers with a flexible approach for the advanced study of a managerial problem important to their organization. Individuals pursuing this degree are interested in examining a relevant business problem from a “hands-on” practical perspective in order to derive applicable outcomes for their organization. Given the applied nature of the program it is considered an inter-disciplinary degree that focuses on the solution of real world problems to the organization. It is often pursued with the direct support of the candidate’s company due to the intrinsic value of the program to the operations of the work-place. What you'll learn The Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership degree program, provides learners who hold a professional Master's degree a means of exploring their personal readiness to become leaders in their professions or current organizations. Learners gain a mastery of leadership literature and demonstrate their competence by applying what they learn to current organizational environments. They also: · Recognize leadership as a process promoting action in service of self, organization, community, and the planet. · Apply leadership models to promote global and social responsibility. · Critically analyze the validity and value of research. · Make original scholarly contributions by researching real-world problems and issues in organizational management. · Critically examine the philosophical foundations of organizations and leadership. · Identify personal leadership philosophies and philosophies of knowledge and their applications to organizations. · Create learning organizations outside of contemporary paradigms utilizing optimal design theories. · Create an environment that produces core competent, inter-culturally sophisticated leaders. · Create an environment that nurtures effective cross-functional, continually enhanced human capital prepared to meet the demands of strategic organizational success. Design The outcome of the Doctor of Management is typically a manuscript that identifies an applied solution to a current problem facing the candidate’s organization. For consistency across programs candidates are required to complete a research methodology course component within the candidacy phase that assist them in perfecting the design of their study. Once completed the student enters the research phase of the program and works with his/her supervisor to produce the study outcome/manuscript. After the study outcome/manuscript has been completed the student presents it to the Doctoral committee with the support of their supervisor. The evaluation of the Doctor of Management degree is 100% based on the quality of the final manuscript/study outcome as presented to the committee in cooperation with the candidate’s supervisor.
