With Adam Scott earning his first green jacket, Titleist certainly had a Masters to remember. Scott played with a brand-new Titleist 913 D3 driver – in fact, he put it in his competition bag for the first time at Augusta National, though he had been testing it for a month or so. Scott switched to his new driver from a Titleist 913 D2. His new 913D3 9.5-degree driver has an A-1 (neutral) SureFit Tour Hosel setting with a Graphite Design Tour AD DI 8, X flex graphite shaft at 44.75 inches, according to Titleist. Scott was asked whether he thought yet another major won by a long putter might have an impact on the USGA and R&A's decision to ban the anchored putting stroke. "I don't know that this is going to impact any decisions at all. You know my feeling on it all; that it was inevitable that big tournaments would be won with this equipment, because you know, these are the best players in the world and they practice thousands of hours,' he said. 'They are going to get good with whatever they are using. It's inevitable. I don't know that is going to have any impact on any decisions upcoming.' The 913s featuring an improved toe profile, and the head retains its black PVD finish with a new black body paint. To accomplish this, the Center of Gravity in the cheap 913 D2 driver was lowered to produce similar launch and spin to 913D3. To do this, Titleist engineers improved the casting and polishing process to produce an ultra-thin crown that allowed for more mass to be redistributed low and deep in the head. This weight has a new, flat geometry with a screw that holds the weight in place but doesn’t extend up into the driver head. I was somewhat surprised that I ended up finding the best fit in an 8.5* loft and an x-stiff shaft. But the numbers simply didn't lie. I tried a couple of different heads and shafts and this gave me the best overall numbers. Only the launch angle was slightly on the low side, with the other cheap golf clubs being perfect. The Titleist 913 is a tweaked version of the 910. The biggest change is going to be the increased forgiviness which means overall more distance. It comes in the same D2 and D3 versions. It is all black again with a similar Sure-fit adjustable hosel. The stock shafts are tweaked too. It was not at all what I expected, but I wasn't too far off, my guessed specs came in a close second in terms of ideal numbers, but spin was just a touch lower with this combo. Even though it was a cold day for my fitting, I felt that in warmer weather with looser muscles this would still be a good fit, since these specs are on the border of "too much" club for me.
