Honestly, the short irons are smaller and feature less offset to provide exceptional control. Consistent distance control, says PING’s chairman John Solheim, was a priority in the irons’ design, to help custom-fitting and optimise performance. “Stabilising bars and a thicker face deliver great feel and ensure that golfers can hit to precise yardages,” says Solheim. “Distance control is an absolute must for better players, but precision is going to help anyone lower their scores.”
I played the Ping K15 Irons for sale for a year and a half and I was looking forward to getting a chance to play with the i20s. Right away I noticed the difference with the added bounce. Much more versatility and forgiveness from thin or thick lies because of the new sole design. I haven't had any trouble hitting solid shots that travel the correct distance from the second cut. Balls that are deeper in the rough come out higher than I've expected, which has been a nice surprise.
The best test has been playing some tournament rounds and I like how easy it is to control trajectory and distance. My miss tends to be thin, but the extra help I get from the CoG locations still gets the ball to launch high enough to carry a decent distance. Well stuck shots come off the face fast and land on the green soft. I did some testing on a Foresight monitor and saw that for 10 decent shots, I carried a 7 irons an average of 165 yards.
While the i20s wont't tell you exactly where you struck the ball on the club face, the irons still sound solid, very solid for cast cheap golf clubs. I think the difference is minimal on slightly off center hits. To me, that's where all the tech talk about forgiveness comes into play. Forgiveness is the higher inertia, which allows a golfer to be able to miss hit a shot but still get good launch and distance out of it.
The I20 irons are combined with workability, shot shaping, distance and forgiveness.
