 Description about Ovral L : Ovral L contains ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel, female hormones used to prevent ovulation as a contraception medication. The drug changes condition of cervical mucus and uterine lining and hampers movement of sperm cells to the uterus and attachment of a fertilized egg to the uterus. Each combined oral contraceptive tablet contains Levonorgestrel I.P. 150 µg (i.e. 0.15mg) Ethinyl estradiol I.P. 30 µg (i.e. 0.03mg). Also be used for regulate menstrual cycle and treat sysmptoms of menopause.
Working of Ovral L :
Ovral L contraceptive pills are medications containing the female hormones, estrogen and progestin. Some oral contraceptive pills contain only 1 female hormone and some contain a combination of both. The effectiveness, success rate and side effects of these medications depend on the hormonal composition of these drugs. These medications help women to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting the release of luteinizing hormone. Estrogen and progestin also prevent the pituitary gland in the brain from releasing follicle stimulating hormone. Follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone play an important role in the development of the eggs in the ovaries. These hormones are also responsible for making changes in the inner lining of the uterus so as to make it favorable for the implantation of an ovum. By inhibiting the production of follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, the female hormones help in preventing pregnancy. Progestin also causes changes in the cervical mucus so as to prevent the entry of the sperms into the uterus. This helps in preventing conception. Progestin also works by directly inhibiting the release of eggs from the ovaries. Thus, the oral contraceptive pills help in avoiding conception.
Warning and Precautions when using Ovral L :
- If you have to throw up within 4 hours after taking pill, consult your doctor.
- Do not smoke while using this medication, especially if you are older than 35.
- This birth control pill does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV and AIDS.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Side Effects of Ovral L : - mild nausea, vomiting, bloating, stomach cramps;
- breast pain, tenderness, or swelling;
- freckles or darkening of facial skin;
- increased hair growth, loss of scalp hair;
- changes in weight or appetite;
- problems with contact lenses;
- vaginal itching or discharge;
- changes in your menstrual periods, decreased sex drive;
- headache (including migraines), nervousness, dizziness, tired feeling;
- Mood changes, including depression.
