Airport furniture refers to the pieces of furniture provided by the airline for customers to sit on and use while waiting for their flights to arrive. Most airport furniture consists of lounge seats, chairs, and the occasional bench seat. Some airport furniture includes shelving to hold pamphlets and reading materials for the waiting customer. You will also find that at some terminals there are desks provided so people who use laptops can sit and do their work while they wait. The most common way to arrange the seating that is in a waiting room is in rows so that the largest number of seats can be placed in the area in question. This arrangement does hinder conversations and seems to leave the area feeling cold and detached. The furniture should be examined to determine whether or not it is in good condition at least every three months. You will check the screws and brackets that attach the pieces to the floor of the structure to make certain that they are securely holding the item in place. Safety checks should be performed on the arms of the pieces of furniture and on the legs of the furnishings to make certain they are firmly attached and likely to stay that way for the next twelve weeks. The backs of the chairs should be examined to make sure they are still in proper functioning order and are not likely to give-way in the next three months. The coverings of the seats should be examined for stains, discolorations, rips or tears. When the coverings can be repaired they should and if they are worn beyond the repair stage they should be replaced. If the items have cloth coverings they should be removed from service and thoroughly cleaned to eliminate any odors, or germs that may be living in the cushions of the item. Plastic covered pieces can be cleaned and disinfected in place and need not be removed. When examining the frameworks of the seats you should pay particularly close attention to any bends in the metal that may indicate that people who are heavier than what is recommended have been seated in them. A bent frame can be an indicator that a future accident is going to happen. If a person weighing two hundred and fifty pounds or more were to sit in a chair with a bent frame the result could be the chair failing to hold the individual and them being dumped onto the floor. Safety examinations of everything that the public can be exposed to have to be done by every company. In order to protect the customer and the company these safety checks should be done in writing so that the management can see when the last check was, what the examiner saw at the time, and then determine if a malfunction could have been prevented.
