In fact there are three main types of metal art, fabricated sculpture, casting and metal junk art. Fabricated Sculpture: Metal fabrication is making of metal structures by cutting, bending and assembling. It is a process that relies heavily on both manual labor and energy powered machines. The metal is sawed, chiseled and sheared with hand held torches and for more difficult or intricate cutting laser and other modern, more sophisticated cutters are used. Unlike cast sculptures, these sculptures are more intricate and often the artist keeps developing his design as his creative instincts dictate. Cast Metal Art This method produces some of the most precise and detailed pieces of art forms. The artistic makes a mold of the shape that he desires. Then in a furnace, heated to extreme temperatures, he or she melts the metal they intend to use. The metal melts and turns into liquid, which is then poured into the mold. The mold holds the liquid until it cools down and solidifies, taking the shape of its container. The metal is then removed from the mold and the sculptor chisels away the unwanted areas. When you see a metal casting artist at work, you will understand how skilful a job it is and the concentration and meticulousness it demands. Metal casting is used not only to create extraordinarily beautiful art forms but to create everyday items that enhance the quality of our lives. Metal Junk Art: Metal junk art is creating artistic objects from discarded objects. The name junk art is a misnomer for such art is so innovative and inventive that the end results are simply amazing. The best part about junk yard is that the material that you are going to use is free, but you will have to search for it - for all that you know you could find some in your own backyard. However, the best place where you can find sufficiently large quantities of discarded metal scrap is the local salvage yard. How can you see something artistic in something another thought was worth throwing away? At first sight it may seem hard to make sense of fragments of iron rods, children's bicycle chains with some links missing, a piece of tin or a bunch of keys. But an eminent artist said that if you look at them for a long period of time, handle them and caress them lovingly, they start speaking to you and soon you will start seeing an image in whatever materials you have gathered. Get to work with your creative instincts and soon you will have a beautiful object, in what another had considered waste, worthy of being discarded.
