One of the best aspects of travelling is that there's a real ability to define travel plans that meet your own, individual needs. I love hearing other people talking about the different places that they have visited, even if some locations don't really appeal to me. In part, I also think that there's a tendency for travel plans to reflect how you are feeling at a particular point in time. I know, from my own experience, that there are occasions when I will want to do little more than spend time on the beach. These are periods when it becomes a necessity to relax and to take things easy. But that's not to say that I don't enjoy the thrill of visiting a vibrant city. If I've been having a stressful time at work, to take one example, then I may certainly feel that it makes much more sense for me to spend my time relaxing. But there will also be occasions when I find that I want to be exploring, visiting museums and actually being educated. Those are the times when I will consider booking a trip that includes a visit to a wonderful city. There's always the question of whether you should return to the same place on multiple occasions too. That's something that I find a struggle, simply because they are so many more places that I'd like to see. Although I may have had a great time in a particular city, there's always that desire to get out there and to see new places. In the end, I find that I have something of a mixture of approaches, combining return visits with that element of discovery that I love so much. I realised that spending time on the beach was fun and that I'd often enjoy reading a book or listening to music. I also, however, sometimes found that I wanted to do something more. The nature of these trips initially appeared to suggest that my options would necessarily be limited, but I soon realised that this needn't be the case. That's the point at which I started to think about alternative options. Examining water sports seemed like a natural route to take and it wasn't long before I was learning to dive, under suitable instruction. I discovered that this allowed me to see so much more and also to appreciate my surroundings.
