Could 2014 be your breakthrough year? The year you become known as the agent in your community? The real estate professional all the other agents want to emulate? The year you reach an income you thought was unreachable? The answer is an unequivocal yes. A resounding yes. A yes with bells on! Why am I so sure? Because I've seen it done many times, over and over again. I've seen average (even below average) agents take the necessary steps to actually become top producers in their farm areas. What's even more important is I know precisely what those necessary steps are. The only question that remains is this one: Are you ready to make those changes? If so, keep reading -- then act on what you've read. Because then, and only then, will you have a chance to make 2014 your best year ever in real estate. 1. Create a Plan Based on Belief and Big Thinking. You've heard about plans since you were a small child. There's a reason for that: they work. But the really good ones -- the ones that produce amazing results -- are based on belief and big thinking. Humans act based on their beliefs. The real difference between average agents and great ones is belief. Top agents actually believe they can achieve greater results, and then they behave as if they're already creating those results. And they think big. If you want to make $100,000 this year, ask yourself this question: "What would have to change in my behavior to reach $100,000 or even $200,000?" And the final step is building a plan that gets specific about how to achieve that goal. A good plan breaks down the daily tasks you'll need to take to reach your goals. Spend one hour a day with clear focus executing the critical tasks that must be done to achieve what you want. 2. Automate Your Processes. Remember this word: Systems! Now think about McDonalds. That restaurant is a perfect example of using a system to make hamburgers, anywhere, anytime around the entire globe. The result? Untold billions of dollars. It's about efficiency. Any task you routinely do three times or more should be reduced to a system and automated. Do that and you'll achieve efficiency. No business can be successful without it. The more your business is automated, the greater your potential for growing and scaling your business. 3. Delegate. If you're managing every file, showing every home, meeting every inspector, taking every photo and answering every e-mail, you'll never be a top producer. To realize true success, you must delegate. Take time and hire a great assistant who understands you and your business and who is willing to work as hard as you. When you put great people and systems in place, you can offer superior service. 4. Prospect Daily. Rainmakers prospect every day. They do it without exception, and their businesses grow. You just have to do it. 5. Be Legendary. Create legendary experiences for your clients in every aspect of the transaction before, during and after the closing. Become a true expert on your communities, housing, lending, and give real authentic advice and guidance. Your clients need your expertise in negotiation, marketing and sales. Never accept average or mediocrity. Now is the time. 2014 is your year. Let me hear from you. What are you looking forward to most in 2014? What specific plans and goals do you have? Are you facing any hurdles you're not sure how to handle? What are they? What can you do today to start overcoming those hurdles? Verl Workman is president of Corcoran Consulting Inc.
