Incense sticks are made with various ingredients - bamboo sticks, charcoal dust, gum powder, masala, perfume and so on. Halmaddi is an important ingredient which is used to form a sticky base, it is an earth colored liquid. In the Ayurvedic principles, ingredients such as star anise, sandalwood, cedar wood, myrrh, turmeric, ginger, costus, root, clove and patchouli are used to make sticks.
