Acting Consul General Xie Yunliang of Chinese Consulate General in Houston, Dr. John Hardman, Director of Carter Center, Mr. Daniel Rosen, former senior adviser for international economic policy on the White House and research fellow at Peterson Institute for International Economics, Mr. Jorge Fernandez, Deputy Chairman of Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Kwanza Hall, Atlanta congressman, Prof. Liu Jun, Deputy Provost of GSU gathered together at the Seminar with Presidents and Vice Presidents of famous Chinese enterprises, such as Huawei, ZTE, Sany Heavy Industry and Hisense operating in the US and leaders of famous American enterprises, including UPS, Home Depot, SMC LED, Techtop Industries. Nearly 200 participants recapped on what Chinese and American companies have achieved in economic cooperation and trade over the years, explored into ways of investment and development of Chinese businesses in America and looked forward into the promising future of businesses of the two countries, especially businesses operating in Atlanta in cooperation and common development. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed sent a congratulatory letter before the Seminar, welcomed attendees from the business community of the two countries and wished all at the Seminar a fruitful meeting on behalf of Atlanta citizens. At 7:30am, Carter Center demonstrated a pleasant atmosphere. Many guests came early to the venue and extended greetings to each other. The Confucius Institute at GSU exquisitely arranged the exhibition booth at the venue where 2011 Confucius Institute Annual Report and Promotional Literature of 2012 Courses attacted the attention of many visitors. Many guests highly praised the enviable achievements scored by the CI in the past more than a year and expressed their gratitude to the CI for hosting such a high-level seminar, offering a meaningful platform for top-notch businesses of China and the US to engage in communication and cooperation. Prof. Liu Jun delivered a welcome address at the Seminar and highlighted the exceptional advantage of the CI boasts in promoting Sino-US cultural and economic exchanges and trade, and outstanding contributions it has made in this respect. Mr. Xie Yunliang pointed out that at the moment China and the US are blessed with a host of favorable conditions. Among others, Sino-US relationship enjoys stable and steady development and leaderships of the two countries visit each other frequently. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping paid a successful visit to the US earlier this year. The two countries witness ever closer economic cooperation and trade and business partnership and heralds very promising prospects. As the two sides launch in-depth communication and cooperation, the goal of mutual benefits and win-win outcome will be surely made a reality. Dr. John Hardman and Daniel Rosen delivered keynote speeches at the Seminar. Dr. John Hardman indicated that Carter Center will be committed to promoting the development of Sino-US relations. Mr. Daniel Rosen believed that Chinese and American companies are supposed to contact and exchanges views with each other more frequently and move forward their cooperation via substantial steps. Later, the Seminar was divided into three workshops for in-depth discussions and communications. Dr. Gu Baotong, Director of the CI at GSU, noted in the closing remarks that the Confucius Institute will create more platforms as such for Chinese and American businesses and actively contribute to the communication and cooperation between the two sides.
